jack ruffled joes hair fondly, as joe was hunched over with laughter.

the beautiful, full moon illuminated the puddles. the sight was cracked with joe stomping and splashing all of the puddles.

jacks shoes were stained with brown mud, and this didn't help by joe jumping around.

"oi!" he said between laughs, trying to get revenge by attempting to kick the water around, but ultimately just kicking air.

"go away!" joe shouted, giving jack a push which caught him off guard, making him fall backwards into one of the murky puddles.

joe laughed for a solid minute, and when the shock wore off, jack joined in, giggling like a child. quickly, jack hopped up, and tackled joe into one of the puddles, too.

for a few minutes, they lay in the puddle, getting drenched, as they stared up into the moon, letting out a few occasional laughs, as they though back on the days events.

although they had only known each other for a couple of days, it felt like years. short years.

jack really liked joe. just joe in general. they had the kind of friendship where you could just not do anything, and still be having the time of your life. now, they were lying in a comfortable silence, joes head on jacks chest, whilst jack wrapped his arm around joe.

at this point, they didn't even care or realise that they were still lying in this puddle.

joe actually had a bit of a fear of the dark. usually, he would have never gone outside when the sky was pitch black. but now, it was as if he found comfort in the sky. and jack. in a very strange way. he almost felt like drifting off to sleep, with his head on jacks chest, his back numb with the cold and his throat raw from shouting all day. it felt right.

he opened his eyes, quickly at first, but he shut them straight away. slowly, he welcomed the unfamiliar light burning his eyes, and tried to sit up. but there was joe, on his chest.

"joe?" he whispered, shaking him a bit.

"uh-huh." joe mumbled, opening his eyes.

jack looked around. they were lying on concrete, surrounded by grass and all sorts of different flowers.

"oh, no." joe said, as he sneezed.

"what happened?" jack asked.

joe had his phone out.

"i'm fucked. i've got like fifty missed calls." he groaned.

"shit. i probably do, too." jack said, as he sniffed.

they both had red noses, and they both felt just slightly out of it.

"what time is it?" jack asked.

"near six am." joe said, coughing.

sure enough, the too bright sun was slowly peeking out from the mountains.

"how did we fall asleep?" he asked, a hint of humour in his voice.

"i have no idea, but i have to get home." joe said, worried.

"joe! its okay, we'll both get home, and they'll be glad that we're safe. don't worry. we should just go straight away." he reassured him.

they ran as fast as they could to their bikes.

"so, where do you live?" joe asked.

"i have to go down this road right here. how about you?"

"i'm the complete opposite. see you on monday! text me." he said, and with that he cycled off.

jack laughed. of course he would fall asleep, outside, with a beautiful boy. he cycled home quickly.

joe slowly opened the door to his house, using the rusty, spare key underneath the flowerpot full of blooming tulips.

once in, he scrambled up the stairs into his room, to see zoe lying in his bed, her cheeks tear staained and her eyes puffy.

a feeling of guilt came so strongly that it threatened to engulf him.

"zoe?" he whispered, hesitantly.

zoe moved, slowly at first, but then was instantly wide awake.

"JOE!" she shouted, wrapping me in a tight hug.

"i'm sorry zoe."

she pulled back, and furrowed her eyebrows.

"and where were you all night? you didn't tell anyone you would be gone all night. mum and dad were out looking for you until about four am!"

joe sighed, and ran his fingers through his hair.

"i was- i was hanging out with a friend, and then we accidentally fell asleep." he confessed, blushing.

"which friend?" zoe asked, her voice softening.

"you wouldn't know him. his name is jack. jack maynard."

"and you slept at his place?"

"uh- yeah." joe lied.

zoe sighed.

"you're soaked. you should get changed and have a shower. i'll tell mum and dad your safe."

"thank you zoe. again, i'm really sorry."

"its fine. but i want to meet jack. he seems to make you happy."
