joes pov

joe bounced his knee up and down, anxiously. he bit his lip as he opened his messages with jack.

jealoussugg: hey ! im pretty bored so do you wanna hang out or anything?

he hit his head on his desk, making two of his coloured pencils roll off.

"why did i send that? i'm such an idiot. we don't even know each other!" joe groaned to himself.

he decided to put on headphones and just try to drown out his thoughts with some panic! at the disco. he started humming along, until a quiet bing! interrupted his thoughts. without thinking, he immediately grabbed his phone, and grinned when he saw a text from jack.

shithead: hm, that depends. will you buy us food?

jealoussugg: if you want me to get the food, its gonna be one of the cheapest, shittiest pizzas to share and we can get a free cup of water from mcdonalds

shithead: you old charmer you! sounds like the best date ever

shithead: when and where??

jealoussugg: how about at like three at the park

shithead: works for me! see you then

joes elation lasted about a minute, until he realised that this could be really bad. they could just sit in an awkward silence, or just have nothing to talk about, or it could-

"hey joe?" his sister said, knocking on the bedroom door.

"come in!" joe replied.

zoe came in wearing a gold, sparkly, fancy dress.

"oh? whats the occasion?" joe asked.

"joe. are you serious? we're going out for dinner with our grandparents tonight. have you really forgotten?we've been planning it for months. we're leaving in like ten minutes. mum wanted to make sure you were ready." zoe said, frustration in her voice.

she lives for these stupid dinner parties. he hates them.

"oh, no! i've completely forgotten. i can't come." joe said.

zoe raised her eyebrows accusingly.

"no, seriously, i've got like this drama thing on tonight, and if you're not there theyre going to kick you out of the drama club. its really important for me to be there." he lied.

"joe. that is the biggest load of crap i've ever heard. its just one dinner party! i know its hard to go to them but it'll be fine. the food should be really nice."

joe put his head on his desk.

"no, zoe, i can't come. i have to do something. can you just lie to mum and dad for me?" joe asked, hopefully.

"if you tell me what you have to do, i'll cover for you. as long as its convincing." zoe replied.

"well i- well theres this person, and im hanging out with them."

zoe laughed.

"zoe, please, trust me on this one. you don't know him. i mightn't be able to hang out with him again! please, please, please!" joe begged.

zoe pursed her lips.

"i'll see what i can do."

and with that, she was out of the room. he silently prayed that my parents wouldn't come up here, and a minute later, he heard his parents shouting up "goodbye joe!" in a surprisingly cheery voice.

joe collapsed on the bed. he sunk into it, as usual, and had to force himself to get out.

it was twenty to three, and joe was not confident at all. curse this stupid crush he had. but also, bless this stupid crush he had.

jacks pov

jack got to the park a few minutes earlier than joe. he was trying to be confident, but for some reason, he was really nervous. which was stupid, considering he always used to hang out with new people, and he was never scared. its just not the type of person jack is. but there was something about joe... he couldn't quite put his finger on it.

he tied the bike he rode on to the bike rack, and sat on the benches, waiting. suddenly, he started to worry about how he looked. was it stupid? he was wearing a bright, yellow jumper, with a pair of glasses and a salmon coloured hat on. he wasn't sure about the black jeans, so today he had worn his blue jeans, but now all the colours combined looked quite stupid. he had even gone for a pair of white shoes. and would joe think it was lame that he showed up with a bike?

the sky was cloudy. there wasn't a patch of any other colour than white. it looked as if it was about to rain at any moment. he stared up to the clouds, as if analysing something.

suddenly, he was snapped out of his daze as he heard the ring of a bell. and there was joe, riding up his way on a black bike. he couldn't help but smile.
