The group searched everywhere. They checked the scrap pile, the treehouse, the fort, the broken car..... Phoenix was nowhere to be found. Victor sat down. Brian sat with him.

"At this rate, we'll never find her!" The redheaded boy exclaimed.

Scarlett sighed. "I'm sure we will. She's probably planning to do the same thing I did: scare you guys. She'll come out any minute."

"There's one last place to check." Amber said. "My house."

The group walked back down the path to Amber's house. When we got there, Phoenix was standing there as if she had never dissapeared.

"Hey, Phoenix!" Scarlett called. Phoenix simply glared at her.

"It took you guys long enough. I've been using this place as my hiding spot." She said.

"What? No fair!" Victor complained. "You were supposed to stay at the junkyard!"

Brian noticed a lapis gem choker on the preteen that wasn't there before. He asked her about it.

"Hey, what's that?"

Phoenix looked at the choker around her neck. "Oh, this thing? I found it on the way here." She replied, adjusting it a little. It gleamed in the moonlight.

"Oh. Cool." He said.

The five kids walked back to the trampoline and bounced for a while. After it had gotten really late, Amber's grandmother walked down to bring the kids to bed. Amber, Phoenix, and Scarlett stayed in Amber's room while the boys stayed in Victor's. None of the girls were going to go to bed anytime soon, however.

Having been to Amber's house before, Scarlett knew exactly where Phoenix was headed: the Lab.

The Lab was a small laboratory with the main door coming from Amber's room. Within the Lab was an array of chemicals and objects that no one knew the purpose of.

After declaring that she was going to make something, Phoenix darted into the Lab and pulled out random objects and chemicals.

"Hey, Amber! What do these do?" She yelled. Scarlett immediately realized that she planned to combine substances that she didn't know. Her choker's gemstone started glowing.

"Phoenix, don't you DARE do what I think you're doing!" Scarlett called, concerned. "You're gonna make a huge mess and possibly get us killed!"

"Nah, this won't get us killed!" Phoenix responded as she combined everything she grabbed. Even Amber looked frightened.

"TAKE COVER!!!" Amber yelled. She ducked under the bed while Scarlett hid under the blankets on top. The girls heard an explosion. After a few moments, Scarlett and Amber came out of hiding. We looked around, and galaxy-like goo was everywhere. Amber sat down on the chair by her desk. Scarlett, pulling the blankets off of her head, noticed a particular blob of goo had a face.... Before she could point this out, though, the maid came in.

"WHAT. HAPPENED. HERE?"

"uh....." Scarlett said, unsure how to explain this mess to her. Amber, on the other hand, knew how to explain.

"SCIENCE!"

regaining her ability to speak, Scarlett told her exactly what happened. "My sister decided to, uh.... create a life form?"

Behind the speechless maid, Victor and Brian popped their heads into the goo-covered room. Both of their mouths hung open. Phoenix and Amber turned to face the blob with a face. It was about the size of three fingers, and was busy collecting the goo scattered about the room.

"Woah... I created that?" Phoenix questioned. "Cool."

The blob, after cleaning it's mess, had grown to about the size of two hands. It made its way over to Phoenix.

"Aww, it likes you!" Scarlett said.

"Shut up, Scarlett. That's probably only because I created it." Phoenix retorted. She didn't really like things younger than her, smaller than her, or dependent on her, and this.... thing.... was all three at once.

"Well, now it's your responsibility to take care of it." Scarlett responded.

The maid nodded. "Yeah. There's no way Mrs. Offbrink will let Amber keep that."

Right on cue, Amber's grandmother walked through the door, the boys moving out of her way. "I don't mind." She said calmly. Everyone stared at her for a moment, surprised by her laid-back reaction.

Scarlett picked up the blob. "We should give him a name, at least."

"Like what?" Phoenix questioned.

"Bob. Bob the Blob." Amber suggested.

"What do you think, Phoenix?" Scarlett asked the preteen.

"Fine. Whatever. He can be called Bob."
