A BLACK SUV PULLED UP IN FRONT OF AN APARTMENT BUILDING. A man dressed in a suit got out of the drivers seat and locked the car. He walked up the steps and into the building. He went up the elevator and walked down the hall until he reached the door he was looking for. Then, he knocked.

                                                 ---

A knock at the door startled Willa. She was the only one home currently; her "mother" was at work, Max was at football, and Katie was at Liz Allan's house. Willa had just heated up some leftover pizza from two nights ago and was planning on writing another few paragraphs of her essay then binge watching The Flash. However, it seemed that fate had chosen another plan.

She set down her plate and walked over to the door. The person knocked again. She looked through the peephole, and saw someone she was not expecting. Her hand froze, hovering over the door handle as she decided whether or not to let the man in. After he knocked a third time, she knew she might as well. After all, it was clear he knew she was there, and that she knew he was there.

She took a deep breath and opened the door.

"Winter, it's nice to see you again. May I come in?" He greeted her. Willa blinked, remembering the nickname he and others at the base had given her. She opened the door wider and he stepped in. "Seems like you've gotten used to the place." He commented. She shut the door and turned, glaring at him.

"Two years, and you finally show up." She said bitterly. "What took you so long?" Her tone was cold, but full of hurt. He sat on the couch and patted the spot next to him.

"Sit. We have a lot of catching up to do." He informed. She stood for a second, deciding whether she should listen to him or not, but then decided to listen. She sat down on the couch. "How have things been?" He asked. She remained silent. "I haven't heard of any frozen bodies being found, so that's good." He commented. Again, she didn't say anything. "I get that you are upset. I left you. But I had a team to lead, and I couldn't put you in harms way. You're like my daughter." He explained. Willa didn't say anything. She didn't know what to say. She was angry, and disappointed that that was his only explanation. She understood, but what she didn't understand was why he didn't visit sooner, or at least tell her why he was dropping her off at some strangers apartment and expecting her to fit in with the family.

"Why didn't you visit sooner, or at least contact me to let me know you had a reason for dumping me at an ex-SHIELD agent's doorstep and expecting me to become normal after four years of training to become an agent?" She asked, trying to keep her voice level. He looked sad.

"I'm sorry. I regretted not telling you because I knew what you had been through before and later, I realized that what I had done was a similar experience. I shouldn't have made you go through that again." He apologized. Willa looked away, unsure of how to react.

"That doesn't make up for the fact that I felt unwanted by everyone. That I can't and never will fit into a family." She argued. He looked downwards in shame.

"I know. It was wrong of me to leave you without an explanation. But you're wrong about something." He began. She looked up at him sharply, The blue swirls on her hands and forearms began to glow a little bit. "You can fit in to a family. You can have friends. People want to be with you. You just have to let them in."

The girl's stone cold glare didn't soften, but deep down, a small fragment of her knew he was right. However, she refused to let people in. When she did, she ended up more broken then before.

"No. People can't help me. They'll only hurt me more." She finally said, her tone cold and regretful.

"That's not always true." Coulson disagreed. She looked away, exasperated. He could never understand what she was going through. She stood, and walked to the door.

"You show up, two years after dumping me on their doorstep, talk about nothing important, and mess up my plans for the night. You know, for awhile I hoped you would come back and let me be at SHIELD again, but now? I'm gonna ask once. Leave." Her glare hardened, and her blue eyes had a terrifying glint to them. Phil stood and started making his way to the door.

"I'm sorry for what I did. This won't be the last you see of me though." With that, he left. She slammed the door shut behind him. Willa leaned against the door and slid down until she was sitting with her head tucked into her knees. She sighed loudly in regret and relief. She was glad he was gone, but also felt like what she did had been wrong.

After a few minutes, she stood up and decided to resume her plans for the night. She grabbed the plate of pizza off of the table, but was disappointed when she realized it was cold. She set it back down on the counter, having lost her appetite after the conversation. She flopped down onto the couch and stared up at the white ceiling.

Why was everything so hard to handle? She asked herself. Her eyes closed, but memories from the day flooded her mind, and she quickly opened them.

The sounds of people shouting in the room next door made her think about one time when her parents had gotten in a fight. Then she was thinking about her life before they had left her, and she began to feel all the emotions she had been trying to push down rise in her. Suddenly, she sat up and grabbed the remote for the TV, hoping for something, anything that would distract her from the horrors of her mind.

The news was the first channel that came on. A reporter was talking about an incident at an airport in Germany, and the Avengers. Hearing about them made her think of her SHIELD days, and the fact that she had just kicked Coulson out of the apartment. She immediately changed the channel.

As she was watching, her eyelids felt heavy. She struggled to stay awake, but after half an hour, she slipped into sleep.
