A/n this is pre-engagement

Sherlock-
You had been carefully contemplating the idea of taking Sherlock to meet your parents for a while you had, after all, been dating for three blissful months. However, every time you thought about it, you felt sick to the stomach that God forbid Sherlock should say anything to upset them. It's not his fault of course, it's just the way he is (and you love him all). Finally, you plucked up the courage from somewhere deep inside you and grasped out for the phone to set a date for the tense first meeting.
"Sherlock" you called to him as you put the phone down and started to furiously scribble dates down onto a stray post-it-note. A few seconds later came a cacophony of light but heavy set footsteps patted their way across the varnished wooden floor and climaxing as Sherlock swung playfully round into the kitchen, holding the doorframe to support himself.
"What is it (y/n)?" Sherlock smiled as he came to sit down next to you on an off balance barstool.
"I've set a date for you to meet my parents" you sat and half smiled at him, eagerly anticipating his uncertain reply.
"I think that's a wonderful idea. It will be good to socialise with some more substandard recipients to exercise my sociopathic traits"
"Sherlock!" You half sighed half shouted. "My parents are not sub standard! I was afraid you'd react this way... You may be a sociopath... But you are a sociopath AND a boyfriend. Please Sherlock... For me. Be nice?" You pleased with him as you saw his eyes plunge into thought for a few seconds before re emerging with a response.
"For you babe, I shall try my best"
"Thank you"

- a week later at your parents house -

Sherlock was pleasantly surprised by your family home, it's small yet grand feeling rooms inadvertently gave off a feeling of unearthly warmth and the decor reminded Sherlock a lot of his own house. As he promised, Sherlock got on extremely well with your parents, having intelligent conversations and showing genuine interest in the topics brought to attention. Sherlock kept his deductions to a minimum - although, before you arrived he did predict, quite correctly- what they would both be wearing and their favourite colours- other than hat though, his behaviour, I'm your terms was absolutely peachy. Things were going well. Too well.... The light mood faded slightly as your brother Sebastian arrived at the house. Sherlock had been getting on fine with your parents, they lived near London so he judged their manner of speech as 'acceptable to listen to'. However, your brother lived in the northern part of England and the only way that you could describe Sherlock's reaction to his accent was disgust...
"(Y/n), he's an idiot!" Sherlock whispered
"He's my brother! Shut it!" You snapped back while still smiling as your brother spoke with his almost unrecognised northern twang.
"He has a matter of speech which is not so much to talk but to chew the words and spit them out" Sherlock scoffed as you dragged him into the kitchen by his arm.
"Sherlock you promised!" You said as a tear welled up in the corner of your eye. Sherlock brushed it away with this thumb as he carefully stroked your face with his soft yet strong hands.
"I'm sorry babe... I'm a sociopath, I can't help it. Your parents are wonderful creatures but to me, your brother is an imbecile"
"Well... You tried... I'll give you that. Thank you Sherlock"
"thank you too babe."
