First of all, thank you for reading this if you are. No matter who you are, you are beautiful and unique and dont let anyone tell you otherwise.
The biggest problem about bullying, is that not many people know what it is. They dont really know the meaning of the word. I know this isnt a dictionary definition but my definition of being bullied is being made uncomfortable by any person in any way shape or form. Even a joke gone too far is bullying. Its just of a different level. Most people think that bullying is only bad if it leads to cutting. But the truth is that bullying could eat you up inside and affects you psychologically too. It shatters your confidence which will affect your whole life.
Theres also depression. Thankfully I havent suffered from any anxiety or depression and im usually a crazy happy smiley person. But I know what its like and every time I watch a video, or read a blog about it, it makes me cry. And the truth is that I dont really know if people that I love, that are close to me are depressed or not. Im so scared that I will never see past those walls that they may put up and, god forbid, one day they'll be another statistic on the suicide list. Depression is an internal wound. It cannot be seen or shown. It can only be felt. So take a deep breath and try and look into another person's heart. You might make a difference.
Enough of my rambling. Im going to mention some initial stages of bullying that I have felt from personal experience:
- Teasing- I know its not that big of a deal to most but small remarks based on weight, gender, opinions, sexuality e.t.c are serious. It tackles the confidence in our bodies and although flesh wounds may heal, confidence never does.
- Group teasing - same as the above but this makes people feel vulnerable and lonely. Nobody should feel that way.
- Rumours - Every secondary school ( I know, wow, im british) has these. Rumours are probably the worst because they cannot be removed and spread like fire.
- Vague statuses - A status on social networking sites is a common initiation of bullying. Its when the victim knows whats written about them but nobody else knows its about them.
I'll mention more of these later on but these are some of the main ones.
If you need to talk about anything i'm offering advice. Just message on my message board and ill follow to talk if necessary. Stay amazing and strong.
Lots of love, nemo
