Ughughugh what even is trigonometry?! I slammed my textbook closed and checked the time. '2am'. "Ughhhgh" I groaned.

I grab my backpack and leave my house.

As I walk up to the library stoop, I'm almost shocked to find it still open, and I'm even more shocked to find someone else inside.

I stalked by and sat at an empty table one away from the other boys table. He looked about my age, has dark brown eyes and shabby light brown hair. Hmm, it looks like he's been here for a while.

I turned back to my trigonometry notes and started working.
I stayed at the library for a couple of hours, every now and then glancing at the boy across from me.

~~the next night~~

I sit in the same spot as last night, with the same notes, across from the same boy, who is working on the same project.

I walked past him to use the computer at one point, and I looked down at his work and saw that he was working on Spider-Man's suit. Hm... that's weird.

I looked up the trigonometry problem that I don't understand on the computers, but I still have minutes left on it. What if he is Spider-Man?

I look up Spider-Man on google images, just in case. I stare at the pictures very carefully. He has about the same build. And same height... maybe it is him.

Wow, okay, so Spider-Man is a kid, and I'm a kid. And he's a superhero, and what am I doing with my life?! I turn off the computer and gather my stuff to leave. So what if he's Spider-Man? Everyone has secrets.

I go to the library a couple days in a row at the same time, and every night I see him there. We exchange glances, but neither of us has said a word to the other one.
But this night is different.

He slams his hands down on the table. "Ugh" he growls, and starts ripping papers.
I pace over to his table and slowly sit down across from him.

"Hey" I start in a low, small voice. "Hey." He says short and frustrated. "I'm (y/n), it looked like you need help..." I offer and he shakes his head. "I'm okay, thanks though." He still refuses to meet my eyes. I nod, and begin to stand up, but then I hear a quick "wait" come from him, I slump back down in the wooden chair.

"Help would be great, actually" he says very politely, meeting my eyes with a smile. "I'm Peter by the way." He hold out his hand and I give it a firm shake. "Nice to meet you, Peter."

"What do you need help with?" I ask him and he holds out a strange substance. "I need to make this stronger, but I don't know how." He ponders. "Hm... did you add carbon to it?" I ask and Peter gives me a weird face. "You know, because carbon is pretty strong and that's what makes up diamonds, and carbon bonds in proteins are the strongest bonds, and the more of them the stronger it is." I explain (I have no actual idea if this is right so please don't think it is!!) Peter nods slowly, processing it. "Oh my gosh I can't believe I didn't think of that!"

Peter mixes Carbon into his solution and we watch as it gets stronger and stronger. "Wow thank you so much!" He says, his mood finally lightened.

After a couple moments, he clears his throat abruptly, "This is for a... um science project." He tries convincing me, but I just roll my eyes. "What?" He asks. He must've caught my eye roll. Damn.
"That's one hell of a science project" I say, and he nods, "Yeah, my teacher is crazy." He laughs lightly.
"Is it a Spider-Man related project?" Peters face drops. "N-no why would-d yo-you think th-that?" He barely makes it through the sentence without turning into a stuttering mess. "Because I know you're him" I say, "but don't worry, I won't tell anyone."
Peter sighs in relief. "Thank you. Thank you so much" he says looking down, and then directly into my eyes, and I nod as a silent 'you're welcome'. "Well, I better get going-" I glance up at the clock, 3:46am, "-I'll see you tomorrow night" I say while looking directly at him. "Yeah! And thanks again!" He says right before standing up from the small table and pulling me into a slightly awkward 'thank you' hug.
I pull out of the hug and nod to him as I make my way onto the dark Queens streets.
