Case III

Chapter 8: Switch.

Matsu tried to control her heart beat. She had seen dead bodies before but never a charred one.

Especially where she could see the horror on the victim's face.

"Are you okay?" Yabu asked worried.

"I guess...just.... Burned bodies...my first time..." Matsu replied.

"Indeed. It is a horrific sight."

"Can I take a breather?" Matsu asked.

"Go ahead."

She strolled in the garden and took a deep breath.

What was she playing at? She was no good with forensics... True she was good at identifying causes and strange patterns...She was not good with death.

<Flashback>

"No!" She shouted as the man was held by 2 other men.

"You see. ...She is very important." A tall handsome man smiled at him.

"Please...He has nothing to do with this." Matsu pleaded.

"You need to learn the consequences of deceiving someone. Besides, as Yuki's sister, this maybe a good chance."

Matsu's eyes widened as the knife entered the man. His eyes were pleading.

"And now...A gift for Yuki." He turned the knife onto her.

"Aniki! (A/N big brother) Spare her! I...I shall handle her."

Matsu's eyes fell on him. Ryosuke.

Matsu rubbed her head. She didn't want people to die anymore.

The stain of his death would remain in her hands for ever.

"Yuki-Sama?" Matsu turned to see Sayo.

"Sayo-San?" Sayo was in tears.

"Please...Please help me! I am being suspected!" Sayo rushed into her arms.

"Its obvious it her!" Kirisaki Miho screeched.

"But he was alive when I went to give him his hot water." Sayo replied as tears fell down.

"You are the last person to see him alive!" Nohana shouted.

"That is no reason to make her the suspect!" Matsu argued.

"Matsu..." Yamada started.

"But..."

His stern look made her keep quiet.

"Yabu. Details of the death." Hikaru asked quietly.

"Kirisaki Soiichiro, 68 years old. Death due to cardiac arrest, probably due to the shock of being set on fire. He was initially suspected to have been hit on the head before being drenched with kerosine and set on fire. Estimated time of death: 9:46 pm-10:00pm, about an hour after we all had dinner." Yabu shut his file.

"Technically neither of us have an alibi." Chinen smiled.

"It has to be Sayo! She was in his room at 9:20-9:30! I saw her go!" Miho said savagely.

"I am afraid that is not possible." Matsu said in a small voice.

"What do you mean Matsu-chan?" Takaki asked.

"Sayo-San was in my room at 9:30...and till we found the body." Matsu spoke up.

"She must have set some kind of time trap so she can make an alibi." Nohana said smugly.
