Cody's POV- June 2017
I made my way out of the locker room and towards the private parking lot. Maddy had called me right as I was dropping my mom off at the airport. She asked if we could talk in person, so I suggested after the game. I knew she would be at tonight's game because her mom brought it up last night. Before the game started, I looked for her and I found her. She was sitting in between her mom and Madisyn, Corey's girlfriend. By the looks of it, she and Madisyn were sharing a Slushed margarita. I knew she had a response for my question, but I didn't know what the answer was; I was nervous.
"Hey"
I turned around and stopped walking when I saw Maddy was behind me. Her hair was up in a ponytail, and she was wearing a Spring Training jersey which she paired with a pair of light blue jeans and black vans.
"You wanted to talk" I said.
She smiled.
"Hello to you too"
I accepted her hug and kissed her cheek before she pulled away.
"I told mom I would meet her in the lot"
"Lead the way" I told her.
I followed her to the lot, and looked up when I heard two beeps.
"Nice car" I complimented.
I was going to take a wild guess and say that the car was Maddy's because I knew Dr. Mendes drove a BMW.
"Thank you, my parents gifted it to me for my nineteenth birthday"
As soon as she opened the trunk, the subtle scent of her perfume became a little stronger.
"Let's sit and talk"
I took a seat next to her and looked at her. She shifted a bit away from me, in order to face me.
"I'm going to get straight to the point because you're probably freaking out"
I was indeed freaking out.
"I thought about your question"
"Yeah?" I asked.
She nodded, and glanced down at her hands.
"If the offer still stands, I would like to go out on that date"
I can honestly say I was not expecting this. I was expecting her to politely turn my offer down. Instead, she actually looked a bit nervous.
"Cody?"
I hummed.
"You ok?"
I smiled at her as I rubbed my neck.
"I honestly thought you were going to say no" I admitted.
"I liked that you didn't judge me"
"There's nothing to judge" I told her.
There really was nothing, the guy needed to get his act together. It was clear he wasn't ready for a relationship, he just wanted to have fun. I was going to take advantage of the guys big screw up.
"Are you busy tomorrow night?" I asked.
"I'm not"
"Let me take you to dinner" I suggested.
She nodded and cocked her head to the side.
"That'd be nice, what do you have in mind?"
"Sushi" I replied.
She smiled.
"Ok, yea that sounds nice"
"We have a game tomorrow, and I won't be free until 10PM" I mentioned.
"It's alright, I'll be here for tomorrow's game so we can head out after"
I nodded.
"You know Los Angeles more than I do" I stated.
"I know a good sushi place that closes late"
"Then it's a date" I said.
I looked away from her as I heard footsteps.
"Ready to head out?"
Maddy nodded as her mom made her way over to us.
"Hello honey"
"It's nice to see you Dr. Mendes" I greeted.
She rolled her eyes.
"Honey, call me Maia"
I nodded slowly.
"We have to let you go honey, I have a consult tomorrow morning"
"Yeah, of course" I said standing up.
Dr. Mendes..sorry, Maia smiled at me.
"Everything good?"
"Everything is great" I replied.
"That is nice to hear"
She turned to Maddy who had just closed the trunk.
"I'll let you say goodbye to Cody"
She then turned to me and smiled.
"It was nice to see you Cody"
Before I could reply she unlocked the car doors and opened a door. I turned to Maddy who offered me a smile once her mom was in the car.
"Sorry about my mom, it's been a while since I last dated"
I could honestly say the same thing. It had been a while since I had gone out on a date. My career had been my main priority, and it got lonely. A lot of the guys on the team were either in a long term relationship, married, or dating their high school sweetheart. Joc always stayed up talking to his fiancee asking how their dog, Blue was doing. Corey always talked to his girlfriend before practice as she walked home from class. All the guys on the team had a significant other or someone to go home or to just talk with ...I didn't have that.
"It's ok" I assured her.
My mom was probably going to freak her out.
"I'm sure you're sleeping like a baby tonight"
I nodded agreeing as I leaned down to hug her.
"Good game"
She wrapped her arms around my waist, so I pulled her into a tight hug.
"Get it Cody!"
I sighed and pressed my face against Maddy's shoulder as she laughed.
"Joc, stop being a pest"
I pulled away as I heard Kike's loud laugh.
"So I'll see you around"
I nodded as she gave my right hand a light squeeze.
"Good night guys"
"Sleep tight Maddy, dream of Cody"
She smiled and looked at me.
"I guess I'll see you in my dream tonight"
I chuckled.
"See you then" I replied.
She kissed my cheek before walking away. I watched as she got into the car, and stepped away from the retreating car. Before I could walk away, Kike made his way over.
"Please tell me that you asked her out"
Once the car was out of the lot I looked at Kike.
"We're having dinner tomorrow after the game" I told him.
He grinned.
"Good boy"
Honestly, if I was a dog my tail would so be wagging.
A/N: They're going on a date!
