So sorry it took this long to update! It was entirely our (my; by the way this is Nicole) fault. We promise it won't happen again and we hope you enjoy this chapter! It has some... lets say pretty intense scenes. Live long and prosper beautiful people in this world!

Chapter 5

Avery was surrounded by his fellow debaters, his head was on the table pulsing rapidly. It was the last round of the day so Avery wasn’t surprised he had a headache.

He had gotten up at 6:30, earlier than he usually did because he wasn’t just throwing something on. Instead, he was wearing a pair of slacks with a tucked in white dress shirt and black vest. He pulled it all together with a light blue tie.

He had even taken the time to put gel through his hair so it stayed in a semi fancy style.

Paul had (surprisingly) shown up right at 7:30.

The first round began at 8:30, and each round is an hour and a half of making speeches, answering and asking questions, and sifting through hundreds pf pages of evidence to find the best one.

This was the fifth round, and Avery was exhausted. Paul had gotten more sour as the day dragged on.

He wore a gray suit with a navy undershirt, which made his gray eyes look brighter than they usually did. He was whining about how uncomfortable his tie was at that moment, making Avery’s headache get worse.

“I need aspirin,” Avery muttered, looking up at the table of his teammates pleadingly.

A novice reached into her purse and pulled out a bottle, handing it to Avery.

Avery grinned and took two, thankful for the girl who had been prepared. He gave her a grateful smile and she returned it.

“Want to go to our room?” Paul asked, standing up and grabbing the schedule.

Avery followed suit and picked up their big tub of evidence, which was actually pretty heavy. “Let’s get this done.”

They had to go across the school and up a pair of stairs to get to the room and by the time they were there Avery’s fingers were sore from where the tub had dug into them.

The door was open when they got to the classroom, which meant the judge was already in there.

Avery took a deep breath and followed Paul into the room. He didn’t look at the judge yet, he put the tub down first and grabbed a pen out of it to sign the judge’s ballot.

He turned around to begin walking towards the judge, and he felt his heart stop.

Hero was there, leaning back in the chair with his arms crossed. It was absurd, really, seeing such a beautiful man sitting in a small high school desk.

Avery was shocked, he was standing there in front of the man he had sworn to forget about.

Hero’s eyes were much brighter than he had remembered, and his lips captivated Avery for a moment before he tore them away. Only to get caught on Hero’s biceps, which regrettably couldn’t be seen but the way they stretched the material of his long sleeved tee shirt made Avery gulp.

Paul nudged him and rolled his eyes before he walked up and shook Hero’s hand and introduced himself (even though they had already met). It was the rules, though.

Avery stepped forward and stuck his hand out, his throat was dry but he managed to croak out his name.

Hero’s lips turned up into a smile that made Avery’s heartbeat speed up because it seemed to promise something dark.
