You're Not Easy To Love

Madison POV

"Madison?," I heard a slight knock on my door "It's Nathan."

I sighed there was too much stress on me I really did not feel like dealing with anymore pack stuff right now, but of course my wishes can never come true, so I have my Beta and best friend, Nathan knocking on the door. I rubbed the bridge of my nose and sighed.

"Come in," I said tiredly.

He opened the door and stepped in and stood in front of my desk.

"What?," I looked at him in annoyance.

"Alpha Cameron is here, may he come in?," Nathan asked

"Oh yeah, I forgot I gave him permission to come in my territory. Let him in."

"You okay? You seem out of it."

"Yeah, just a little frustrated, it has been too much bullshit going on especially with this war arising."

"Well, just look at it this way, after this one meeting, you're done for the day, you can relax and sleep."

"Yeah, I know."

I raised my head back up and sighed again.

"Just send him in so I can get this over with."

"Yes, Alpha."

Nathan then walked back out. Female or not, best friend or not Nathan still felt the need to bow down to me because I was his alpha. And I'm not going to lie, the power felt great, just not the responsibilities. In the midst of my thought Cameron walked in.

"Madison," he greeted me.

"Cameron, you can have a seat," as I pointed out one of the chairs across from my desk.

"I see you're already tired, so let's get down to the point."

I guess he noticed the redness in my eyes.

"And what is the point, as far as I know, you want my pack to join you against the war with the Nightshed Pack, which has nothing to do with us."

"They are closing in on my territory ready to take over, they are violating pack laws."

"But, why would I put my wolves in danger, for the sake of your pack. All my wolves over 20 years old are mated, why would I want to involve them in an unnecessary war to take that away from them?"

Me saying that sentence hit me hard, everyone over 20 years in my pack was mated except for me, which meant that either my mate was younger than 20 years or just not in my pack. So part of me wanted to involve my pack in this war so maybe my mate could be in Cameron's pack, but why would I risk my pack's lives for my sake?

"Madison, the Nightshed Pack is the biggest pack in the U.S once we take out their alpha we can split the pack in two and have the two strongest packs in the U.S."

"Why in the fuck would I go against the biggest pack in the U.S with you?! You're the same one who decided to come out here in my territory without protection. What alpha is stupid enough to do that!"

"Why would I be stupid enough to come alone," he still kept his voice at a leveled tone "I have my beta, third in command and five other wolves with me."

"Then who the fuck is watching your mate, your Luna?!"

At this point I was so pissed, I wanted a mate so bad and he couldn't even keep proper watch over his mate. He's coming to me complaining that another pack in slowly taking over his territory, but yet he leaves his mate unguarded.

"Well obviously I wouldn't leave her unguarded, I have my two strongest wolves watching over her."

"So, you brought seven people to protect you, but only two to protect your mate?"

"Okay, can we change the topic, this isn't about my mate, this is about the upcoming war."

"I'm not going into the war just for power. You better go hire some rouges and count my pack out."

"Alright then."

He got up and walked towards the door.

"And I don't want you back on my territory until your stupid war is over."

Then, I got up and directed him towards the door. And at the door he stopped.

"You know that's a real shame because I would have had your back if you wanted to go into war and it's not like you haven't been in a war before."

Then he left. I just rested my forehead against the door, he was right. He would have had my back if the situation was turned on me, but his reasoning for going in to war was just stupid. I've never had a mate, so I'll never know what it feels like if that bond breaks, but I don't want to and I won't allow other people to experience it just because it won't happen to me. Not again. Soon, Nathan sent me a mind link that Cameron was off my territory. That was a breath of relief. I lazily dragged myself upstairs to my room in my bed where as soon as my body felt the soft touch of the silk blanket, I fell asleep.
