Chapter 8

"...Explain what happened.", said Jungkook staring at the floor.

We were sitting in the lobby of the hospital waiting for Principal Han. Sohyun was taken into emergency care and the nurses asked for us to wait for reports on her condition.

"I walked in the bathroom and she was just lying unconscious.", I said.
"...You didn't have anything to do with this right?", asked Jungkook.

I looked at Jungkook in shock.

"Excuse me?", I asked.
"I'm just asking.", he said.
"What, you think I would go as far as to hurt someone?"
"No, that's not what I'm saying."
"If anything YOU would be the one to get physical someone."
"Oh so now you're insulting me? You know for a fact that I changed."

Jungkook and I glared at each other.

"Did you really though? Last time I checked, you're still the asshole from before.", I said raising my voice.
"I'm the asshole? Who's the one who ignored my feelings after you knew how I felt?", he said louder.
"You knew I wasn't ready and I was still figuring how I felt. And then you just suddenly avoid me and go out with a person you know I dislike."
"Well that person you dislike is hospitalized because of you. I hope you're happy."
"I can't believe you're accusing me of doing such a thing. Do you really think I'd stoop so low?"
"Who knows... It's like I don't know you anymore."
"And whose fault do you think that is?"
"It was never my intention to push you away. I thought you would understand that I'm doing this for your protection."
"Protection from what? You've been dodging questions, avoiding me, and ultimately breaking my heart. I can't deal with this anymore..."

Jungkook sighed and rubbed his face.

"...I'm sorry...", he said quietly. "It's been hard for you and I understand. I haven't been there for you and you have every right to be mad..."

Seconds of silence passed, though it felt like forever.

"...How long am I gonna keep waiting on you Jungkook?", I asked breaking the silence.

Jungkook didn't respond.

"...I guess that answers my question...", I said feeling my eyes well up.

A few moments later, Principal Han came up to us and told us the news about Sohyun.

"The doctor said she was very malnourished and passed out.", he said. "They also found a lot of medication running through her system but she'll be fine."
"When can we visit her?", asked Jungkook.
"In a couple days or so. Also, Jungkook I need her parents information so come with me for a moment."

Jungkook stood up and followed Principal Han. I sat alone, wallowing in sadness until Jino suddenly appeared in the corner of my eye.

"There you are.", he said sitting next to me.
"What're you doing here?", I asked.
"I brought you some food since I knew you'd be here a while."
"Thanks Jino.

Jino peered into my face as I grabbed triangle kimbab from the plastic bag sitting on his lap.

"What's wrong?", he asked.
"Nothing.", I tearing the wrapper.
"Don't lie to me. I can see somethings up."

As I bit into the kimbab, tears rolled down my face.

"Somin...", said Jino looking surprised.

He rolled down his sleeve and began wiping my tears away.

"...Did something happen with Sohyun?", he asked.

I shook my head in response.

"Well if she's okay then why are you crying?", he asked.

Jino then looked over my shoulder and scoffed.

"Don't tell me it's because of him.", he said.
"...It's not.", I said.
"It is, isn't it?"
"I'm fine. Really."
"How many times has he hurt you? Somin I can't sit back and watch you cry like this."
"...This is just a way for me to release stress."
"I call bs on that. You want me to talk to him?"
"No. Absolutely not."
"Why not? I'll teach him a lesson."

Jino stood up and I grabbed his wrist.

"Jino please. It's okay.", I said.
"...Fine...", he said sitting back down.

Thirty minutes passed and I could feel my eyes getting heavy.

"It's getting late.", said Jino. "Close your eyes."
"I can't sleep here.", I said.
"Why not? I'll be here, it's fine."

I ended up closing my eyes and fell asleep in no time.

"I didn't expect you to be here.", said Jungkook walking up to Jino.
"I was just stopping by.", said Jino standing up.
"To check up on Sohyun? That's unlikely."
"Well, you caught me. Somin seemed like she needed someone to rely on and luckily I stopped by."
"Who said that person would be you?"
"Well it certainly isn't you, Mr. Heartbreaker."
"Why don't you just say what you're thinking instead of beating around the bush."
"Alright. I don't like you and I think Somin deserves better."
"What makes you think you're better?"
"Don't act like you're the best. You know how much shit you put Somin through?"
"Don't act like you know what going on."
"Oh but don't I? Anyone can clearly see you're not the right one for her."

Jino walked past Jungkook, hitting his shoulder. In the heat of the moment, Jungkook grabbed Jino by the arm and punched him in the face. Jino touched his bleeding lip and scoffed.

"This is all you're good for right?", he said before leaving the hospital.

A couple nurses ran after Jino after witnessing the scene but failed to catch up to him. Jungkook stared at his fist and sighed.

"What is happening to me?", he said to himself.

Jungkook glanced at me.

"...I'm so sorry Somin.", he said.
