"August, do you have any perfume?" Kandace Kade asked as she came into the locker room. She was smelling her uniform as she did so. I didn't have to speak, she knew where it was, so I just pointed.
We were in the locker room, getting ready for the Varsity Game against the Monroe Tigers. The Boys were pumped and we all had high hopes that they were going to beat them. Although the team hadn't had a good start of the season, they've vastly improved.
"Hey," Julia said, coming towards me, holding up her hand, "can you put my bow in?"
I nodded as she crouched down in front of me as I tried to not pull her hair to much. Once it was finally in, we both sighed and I went to go put my shoes on. I undid the small ties as I fit on one before Melissa Norrie came up to me. She was the JV team captain, and a fairly nice. She wasn't the best cheerleader though, and that's mainly why I felt myself irritated with her most of the time.
"Hey, August," She spoke in a hushed tone. She looked around us before she made another sound, "Could I talk to you?" She paused, "Later?"
I looked at her for a moment, wondering what it could be about. The only thing that came to mind was something about cheerleading, or maybe some kind of homework she had no idea how to do in Alg. I nodded, smiling as she walked away.
"Jeez, what was that about?" Julia asked, coming to put her shoes on beside me.
"No Idea."
"GO BIG GREEN!!!" We heard Kary Smith yell behind us, bellowing across the field. She was the classic crazy soccer mom who actually likes football. She was always the loudest and somehow she was always louder than the whole cheer squad, which was scary.
It was the fourth quarter and there was no way that the Tigers were going to win, we were up 7- 30 and there were only 3 minutes left in the game. It was a runaway.
As the final few seconds counted down everyone cheered. The poor Tigers fans left with their heads hanging low, all of their trash talk before this was now useless. As we all walked out of the field, my eyes were attracted to a crowd that was quickly dispersing. As I concentrated on it more and more, I realized there was something over there.
"Help!" I finally heard someone scream.
I walked that way, bumping into others running away. As I got closer, a dark figure came into view. A dark cloak, the same one I saw so many years before. I felt my heart stop and everything around me slowed to almost a stop. The screams faded into nothing because all I could think of was this thing in front of me. The thing I thought I had gotten rid of.
"August," I heard someone say to me, multiple people actually. "August!"
They were all screaming my name, but it didn't really register, I just saw the cloak, the dark red eyes that had a soft glow coming from them. The sharpened teeth sticking out from their mouth. It hypnotized me.
"August!" Someone shook my shoulder, making me look at them. It was Lance. It was such a surprise, he brought me back to what was happening. Why was he here?
"August, run!" He yelled, pushing me back behind him. He stumbled almost falling to the ground before Zack magically appeared, catching me just in time.
As Lance approached the creature it ran away. By now, everyone else was gone, inside the school that was a block away, but the big lights that loomed over the field stayed on.
"Lance!" Zack called, making the other boy turn around, his eyes flashed a strange shade of yellow-green when he turned around. Fangs poked out of his lips and his fingernails looked slightly longer than usual. I gasped, surprised to say the least that he was one of them."What are you going to do?"
