I stare ahead at the yellow eyes blankly. How does he know? I question myself. I plaster a fake smile across my face and pretend to be confused. "What are you talking about?" I raise an eyebrow.
He sighs. "I'm not dumb Sapphire, I know something happened last night. Now tell me what it is!" He says lowly so only we can hear.
"How would you know if something happened last night?" I defend and he pinches the bridge of his nose and shakes his head.
"Well first off you obviously haven't slept, you were in the cafeteria this morning which you say you hardly ever do. Oh and showering at school this morning? What's up with that?" He huffs with a strange expression on his face.
Why would you care? I think to myself. "How did you know I showered at school this morning?" I decide to throw questions back at him.
His pupils dilate, "Well first off I heard this Naveah girl talking about it, and at first I was like 'yeah right' but then you had the wet hair to prove it. Also, you did smell exceptionally fresh this morning." He creeps me out.
The teacher starts talking, "Listen." I whispered and went on with class. Today Mr. Frances gave us a partner project that we have a month to do, but it must be done outside of the class, and since he's giving us time we have no excuse. I begged him to let me work alone but he told me to 'grow up', so this next month of school should be interesting.
My thinking process was interrupted with an elbow pressed against my side. "So your house?" He smirks making me confused.
I raise an eyebrow, "Huh?" he chuckles.
"The project Sapphire. Do you want to work on it at your house or not?" He mocks, making me look stupid.
I suddenly start to think about home. Is home even home anymore? I can't answer that at the moment. "No. I'm not allowed to have boys over." I tell him and he scoffs.
"Did you just assume my gender?" He puts a hand over his heart and pretends that he cares.
"No. But my parents will and I don't want to deal with your gender identity." I tell him truthfully. (Not meant to hurt anyone, this is just a common joke for many high schoolers.)
"Fine." He pouts. "Your coming home with me today then, so I can understand what the project is."
The idiot wasn't even paying attention! I mentally pray for him in my mind. "You should've really been paying attention. That's our biggest grade for this quarter." I warn.
He holds his head in his hands, "Fuck. For the sake of our grade I hope your better at English than I am." He pleads making me smile.
