You and Zach have been friends forever. The week of the homecoming dance was approaching. Obviously you wanted to ask Zach but you didn't know how. You didn't really think the guy always has to ask so you wanted to ask to change it up. One day you were walking home with one of your other friends and you asked him for a favour.
"Hey Matthew can you help me with something?" You asked
"Yea sure (y/n). What is it?" He said
"Well I wanted to practice asking someone to homecoming on you." You said nervously.
"Ooh who are you gonna ask?" Matthew with a smirk.
"I'm so not telling yo-" I got cut off.
"You're asking Zach aren't you?" He asked but more like a statement.
"What? How did you know?" I asked concerned.
"Well it's pretty obvious! I knew you liked him and I'm pretty sure he likes you." Matthew said smiling.
"So you'll help me?" I asked.
"For sure! I'm glad to help my two best friends go to homecoming." He said smiling.
We went to the park and sat on a bench. We talked about how I should ask and when.
"So Matthew will you go to, go to, go-" I just couldn't finish my sentence.
"Go to what? Come on (y/n) you have to pull it together!" Matthew said determined.
"Ok. Here I go. Matthew will you make me the happiest girl ever and go to homecoming with me?" I asked smiling.
"Of course I would!" Matthew said getting up and hugging me.
We laughed and laughed. We both walked home and I was so excited for tomorrow.
The next day I woke up to my phone going off. It was Matthew.
"(Y/N) GET UP! TODAY IS A BIG DAY!!!" Matthew yelled happily.
"Ok, ok I know! I'll talk to you at school. Bye!" I hung up. I was actually so nervous. What if Zach doesn't like me like that? I decided not to think to much and just go. I went to the bathroom and got ready. I picked out my outfit for the day and went downstairs. My outfit:
I walked downstairs humming a happy song.
"Good morning girly! Why are you so happy?" Dad asked.
Mom handed me my breakfast smiling.
"Well I like it! It's a good look on you." Mom said smiling.
"Why thank you. Today I'm planning on asking Zach to go to homecoming with me!" I said excitedly.
"Oh changing it up! I like that! Well good look sweetie!" Mom said.
"A boy! You're lucky I like Zach! But make sure he keeps his hands to himself!" Dad said sarcastically.
"Oh Dad don't worry! Love you!" I hugged them and left. I met up with Matthew at school and we talked all day. It was lunch and that was when I planned on asking Zach. Though I couldn't find him anywhere. I sat down with Matthew hoping we would see Zach. We soon decided to go look for him. We were walking around when we saw Zach and my other friend, Lauren talking.
"So you'll go to homecoming with me?" Zach said.
"Of course I will." Lauren said.
In that moment I felt my heart break into a million pieces. It felt like I was betrayed and I just wanted to cry. I ran away and sat alone for the rest of the lunch. 34 text messages from Matthew and 7 missed calls from Matthew. I really didn't want to talk to him. After school I ran home and went to my room and cried. I just didn't understand. Lauren knew I liked Zach and she just betrayed me. I soon heard the doorbell ring and I was the only one home so I went to answer it. It was Matthew. He rushed in and gave me a hug.
"(Y/n) I don't know why Zach and Lauren would do that to you. I'm so sorry." Matthew said.
"It's ok Matt it isn't your fault." I said still sobbing.
"Well if it makes you feel better I'll go with you." Matthew said trying to cheer me up.
"Thanks but I don't know if I even want to go anymore." I said.
"NO WAY (Y/N) YOU'RE DEFINITELY GOING!" Matthew said. "This is a once in a lifetime thing, sort of, but please go with me." He begged.
"Fine but I don't know how I'm gonna act when I see Lauren and Zach." I said frowning.
