Okay so walking home probably wasn't the best idea and the forest right next to me wasn't exactly helping. I could swear I felt someone looking at me, but I couldn't worry about that now I needed to get home fast at least before my dad gets home. I already got a plan: get home before dad, redirect the school calls of my absence to my own phone for future reference, and repeat every day until I get homeschooled. I know I'll get behind on coursework but I figured maybe pulling all nighters for a few days to catch up won't be too bad. Dad has been really stubborn about this, but I figured that I could convince him by the end of the month. My mind was trying to figure out what I had to do to finish all of my classes as soon as possible.

I was completely out of it when I had to climb uphill, "okay I think I need to sit down." I decided to rest a bit and coincidently I saw a log a few feet inside the forest. I rested myself on the long and sighed, "I hope I'm close to home I don't know if I can keep walking." I was sweating in my winter jacket but I knew better than to take it off unless I wanted to freeze. I took out my earphones from my bag when I heard rustling from behind me, I froze. I turned my head and stared at the forest and it seemed quiet enough. Wait. I stay quiet once more just for a few seconds. It's completely quiet. I know I'm from a place where sound can be heard a mile out of the city but a forest is never quiet at least not to this extent. There's no birds making noises there's just silence. I slowly stand up and take a few steps forward looking at the landscape, there's no animals, no birds swooping from tree to tree, no wild rabbits, nothing.

What should I do now? Continue the grueling walk towards my house or venture a little deeper into the forest to find my destiny or some bullshit like that. I laugh at myself for even thinking of something so stupid but it's not that bad of an idea I mean I still have a lot of time till my dad gets home from work. "A little trip through the forest never hurt anyone, it'll only take a few minutes," so I grabbed my bag and continued forward into the forest.

Avery's POV

I think she heard me. She's staring right at me without even knowing it. I've been tailing her for the last hour and a half. She doesn't seem like an idiot, but deciding to walk home was a pretty stupid move on her part. I don't understand why though, I get that school is hated by any millennial, but literally ditching the first day and deciding to take a ten mile hike is a little over exaggerated. I have a few theories about it, but then again it shouldn't be any of our concern we were only told to watch her and make sure she's safe. I wonder why our mom and dad told us that.

-Flashback-

We had just gotten home from the memorial at the Porter's house when our parents call us to the living room. I thought they were going to lecture us for fighting the whole time.

"For my defense Nick was the one who started every single argument, Rowan was there he is my witness."

Nick's head quickly turned towards me, "it was you who kept bothering me! You didn't have to respond to anything I had to say but you always have to butt in."

"Yea dimwit cause you're too stupid to know when you have to stop."

Nick got really red but then were heard a growl from our dad, "that's enough." We instantly got silent and he continued, "this isn't about your behavior at their house although we will be having a good talk about that." We both looked down to the floor, a submissive role.
