They thought they were safe. They thought that with the end of the Maze trials, they would be able to go back to their families. But that's not what WCKD wanted.
Laina stayed where she was, frozen and numb. Chuck had called her and Thomas, parents. She felt tears escape at Chucks name.
"There's nothing you could've done." Thomas whispered in her ear. For the first time in weeks, Laina moved, looking at Thomas.
"I could've done something. It's my fault he's dead, and it's my burden to bear." She looked down at the little bear in her hand, feeling numb agian. She felt more tears fall, knowing that whatever was going to happen wasn't going to be the same, not without Alby, and certinly not without Chuck.
