when you cut off your strings
after the first one you forget to put on the face mask you've done every thursday since last november
and if you cut the second one then you forget to shave under your arms
and then with the third you let the nail polish chip away with no intention of painting it back on
and after the fourth you forget to wash your hair but no one will notice if it's in a ponytail
when the fifth string is cut you wear sweatpants to school four days in a row
and after the sixth who cares if you shower every night
and if you cut the seventh your mother is worried about you
and with the eighth a weight is placed on you while you sleep which must be why it's so hard to get up
after the ninth you know nobody will care if their messages are left with no response
and by the tenth half those people are out of your life anyway
as the eleventh string is cut you fall
and the only thing left to do is tie some new strings
