Chapter Twenty Nine

The world below Agnes diminished from view.

The wind rushed through her wings, along the edge of her feathers. Her mane flew wildly, scintillating. The world up high was something she loved to see. The lush trees became mere bushes, spot of green blooming across the land. Mountains appeared to be hills, their peaks no longer seemingly scraping the skies. Birds soared alongside her, twittering. Never had the sky been so close, so blue and vast.

She loved this feeling of flight, of being above the world. Everything was at ease, though a single named continued to echo in her head.

Agnes Agnes Agnes...

Where had she heard that before?

Frustration sparked in her as she huffed. Why was it so hard to recall? She had only remembered to wake up seeing a girl morphing into a snow leopard, one of the most peculiar things she had ever regarded in her life.

She spiralled down to a rocky ledge above the sea, the salty air reeking of seaweed drifting into her nostrils. Landing her eyes averted to below, where a narrow line of the beach remained. She gasped in surprise as a blaze of green light ignited on the beach, and figures materialized out of nowhere.

Go have a look.

"Is there any way we can undo this?" Faelyn cried, rummaging through drawers of books and rotting scrolls.

"Don't know," Carlson replied gravely, staring at the ceiling, "I don't think so."

They had all reverted back to their human forms after the Voice was destroyed. After all, they had not Warped naturally like Agnes, but forced to by the Voice.

Karlie growled. "There must be a way. If there isn't I will TEAR THIS WORLD APART UNTIL I FIND A SOLUTION. And if I can't find one, I will RAGE AND MAKE IT SHRIVEL TO DUST. And if THAT doesn't work, I'LL—"

"Everyone, think," Galvana interrupted, "if she was able to free us by ridding the reason why we Warped, can't we do the same for her?"

"True!" Karmen jumped in, "she Warped because she surpassed the time limit, meaning she lost control, right?"

"I guess," Devan shrugged, thought there was hope flickering in his eyes.

"We find a way to get her to take control of herself," Karmen thought for a moment, "And to do that, she has to know who she was, what happened, in order to do so. If we—"

"If we help her remember we can GET HER BACK!" Karlie got up and bounced around.

"We've got to find her first," Devan pointed out, "Let's go onto the beach to have a look."

~Agnes~

The figures were watching her.

What do they want? She thought irritably. Her tail swished side to side as she shook out her wings.

"Agnes!"

That name again. What on earth was wrong with these people? She had no idea who this Agnes was!

Nevertheless, she fluttered down to the beach, her hooves leaving imprints in the clumpy sand. The water rippled and wrinkled, glimmering in the sunlight spying between the grey clouds.

One of the figures was familiar. She then came to recognize it was the human she had seen before, the human who was shifting into a snow leopard.

"Agnes-I mean Pegasus," Karmen began nervously, "do you r-remember who you actually are?"

What are they saying! Of course I know who I am. She nodded her head slightly, the mane tickling her neck.

"You weren't a Pegasus. You were human once, a human named Agnes. Do you remember?"

Ridiculous. I've never been. She blew air from her nostrils and glared at them.

"I'm guessing that's a no," Karmen straightened her back, "Do you recognize any of us?"

Let's see here. The two look alikes, don't remember. That orange-haired person, not really. Asian girl, nope. Hmmm...silver hair...not sure, he reminds me of someone, but looks like he has more ego. That girl with green eyes...I swear I know her...oh yeah from yesterday. She shook her head from side to side, signaling a no.

"Then do you remember someone named Carlson or Karlie?" Karmen asked.

Not at all. Although they both remind me of another name...the name of the person that silver hair reminds me of.

"I suppose not. But remember you weren't a Pegasus before. You were—"

"Enough!" Agnes couldn't help but shout, her voice full of authority, "You can't just bud in, and tell me who I was. I know who I am, and I don't need someone to tell me that." She snapped, swiftly whirling and pumping her wings. The beach transformed into a strip of white as she gained altitude.

Those crazy humans. Thinking they know me so well.

But a single thought of doubt was still left in her.

What if they were right?
