I stood absolutely shocked. I could feel loads of eyes lingering on me. Meg stepped forward and spoke up.

"You are a new kid. Act like a new kid. You don't know what goes on around here and who handles what. We," she shot her thumb back at the crowd, "are who make the decisions, so run along before hell breaks lose." She narrowed her eyes and put her hand on her hip. The people behind her gave me death glares and José avoided eye contact with me.

Sierra moved beside me.

"It's her first day Meg. Just let her go. It won't happen again." Sierra whispered with her head ducked.

Woah, woah woah. This won't happen again? Just let her go? Her words repeated in my mind and I realised that Sierra was afraid of Meg.

That was like me years ago. When Brittany tried to put me down and step all over me. Right now would've been the time that Heather would've came in and said something. I looked over at Sierra and took it in. Was I really like that? Was I really scared of a girl who clearly couldn't defend herself without popularity? Oh hell no, not again.

"Woah, woah, woah. I may be a new kid, but quite frankly I don't care what goes on around here... I don't care that you think you have power to order me what to do. I don't care that you may have a huge crowd behind you that's scared of you. Or even you Sierra, " I glanced down at her, "all I know is that this is the first day of school and I'm not looking for drama. I'll stay out of your way, and you stay out of mine, " she opened her mouth to speak up, but I cut her off, "and this is the only time I'm going to be nice."

I saw José peering intently at me. His gaze was making me uncomfortable so with that I turned around and stalked off.

That was the nicest I'd ever be to her. How dare she try and humiliate me on the first day? My dad always taught me to speak with my mind, not my anger. So I did, and it better have worked because the next time she tries anything, I'm sure I'll go cannibalistic.

Sierra ran up to my side and grabbed my shoulders. She shook me until my bag slipped off my shoulder.

"You. Are. Crazy!" She hissed.

"Crazy? Yeah, says the girl who's scared of a chick surrounded by hobbits." I scoffed.

"No, really Soul. I don't think you understand what you've gotten yourself into! Those people.. they aren't n-n-normal. But anyways, that was crazy! You told her! She was left speechless, she couldn't even say anything! You were even nice! She couldn't have said anything because you were being nice! She was so mad, but oh my- "

"Sierra!" I yelled. Man, this girl could go on forever. What did she mean they weren't normal? I closed my eyes and let out a deep breath.

"Thank you but, I don't think telling her to leave me alone is a big deal. I mean.. you know.. thanks for the compliments but... you really need to stick up for yourself. I used to be exactly like you. I've learnt to be assertive." I put my hand on her shoulder and she immediately lost all the enthusiasm that was on her face.

"Soul... no one's ever done that to her," she whispered, "thank you. She deserves it after what she did-" she immediately stopped and shut her mouth. What did Meg do that was so bad? Figuring she didn't want to talk about it, I let it slide.

I smiled back, "You, Sierra, are welcome. I mean even though we met like two minutes ago- what are friends for right?" We laughed while the bell rang signaling classes had started.

Our first class was photography. Sierra led me through different hallways and I couldn't seem to remember any of them. We finally made it to a door and she pushed it open while grabbing my arm and tugging me in.
