There's no escape.
The words kept repeating over and over again in my head.
You're dead.
I am dead. There's no way I could take on seven full grown men alone. Especially on an empty stomach.
Even if Aidan was here, I'd still have a chance of survival. Unless he has become one of them.
He's not important right now, Lauren. The voice said. Look around. Know your opponents. Remember, you were born to survive.
No I wasn't. I'm going to die. Right now. I'm going to be shot in the head, and then all of this will be over.
Look around. Know your opponents.
"Is the little girl scared?" The same voice from before said. I turned around and looked at him. He was well built, with all those muscles. He also had a big, furry animal on his face.
Wait, that's a mustache.
I gulped down the bile coming up my throat. "No, why do you ask?" I spread my legs apart and put my arms up, getting in a fighting stance.
The mustache man laughed. "Look, the little girl thinks she can fight us."
I grit my teeth. "Don't you dare call me little."
"But isn't that what you are? A cute, innocent little girl?" The man beside him said. He wasn't as well-built as the first, yet he definitely looked strong.
"Exactly, I'm innocent." I said. "You have no right to point seven guns at my head."
"Well, little girl-" A voice started.
I turn around, to where I heard the voice. "Don't call me little."
"Well," He continued. He looked Asian, yet had dark skin. "If you listen to us and do what we say, we won't have to use our guns."
"Let me just tell you, I'm a really bad listener." I tell them. "I'd rather say what I'd like to say, not do what you want me to do."
"Well, listen up kid. This is what's going to happen." Mr Mustache said. I turned back around and faced him. "You're going to come with us, then show us where your little friend is. Then, we'll take both of you to where you belong, back at the Institute."
This is it, Lauren. I told myself. Are you staying out here or are you going back?
Stay. The voice said. You'll be in the Institute until you rot. Or worse.
What's worse? I asked the voice.
Nothing you should know right now.
Sometimes I hate that voice.
I gulp down my worries, my hatred of the people around me. My next move was for me and for me only.
"What if I don't go with you?"
The guy with the mustache shoots. I move literally an inch away and fortunately, it misses me.
"Next time, it isn't going to miss." He says.
"Are you sure about that?" I ask.
That was it. He snapped. The strings that kept him restrained were now cut. He went charging towards me, like a raging bull.
I couldn't run, since there were guards behind me. Plus, that wouldn't be the smartest move. Guards surrounded me, so I couldn't actually run anywhere. And they had guns.
