"Why do I have to go to that stupid ranch this summer mom?"

"Because you need to meet new people and stop being so independent."

"Ugh, whatever. I am not gonna get along with a bunch of country redneck hillbilly hicks."

My name is Haley Brooks and I am the most popular girl in my school. I have too many friends to count and I know I'm better than everyone else. No I don't have a boyfriend because I'm too good for all the guys at my school and they are all immature jerks. Plus, I've dated half of them anyways. My parents are going on vacation to a five star hotel this summer, and they told me I had to go to a ranch. Yay! Not. I'm leaving tomorrow morning and I'm so not ready. My dad is already there because he works near the resort, that's why they are going. He gets a discount because he's a carpenter and he installs all their floors.

"Well maybe you should learn to get along with them. They are nice people."

"Yeah, so wasn't Justin Bieber at the beginning of his fame. Look at him now."

My Mom sighs loudly and rolls her eyes at me.

"Haley that is not my point. You are going to the ranch whether you like it or not."

"I won't like it, don't get your hopes up, blondie."

"Haley Brooks! Don't ever call me that again."

"Fine. Night Blondie see ya in the morning."

"Get your ass back here right now."

I walk back over to my mom, yeah I'm pretty threatening, I'm about eight inches taller than her and I can get pretty intimidating if I want to. By the way, my mom is really short because I'm not even that tall.

"Whatever shall I help you with blondie?"

"You better march your ass upstairs right now and go to bed. Do you understand me young lady?"

"Sure thing Mrs. Brooks."

"Oh my gosh, I'm done with you. Be ready to get up at 5:30 tomorrow cause that's when I'm waking you up."

"5:30?! As in a.m.?"

"You got it. Make sure your stuff is packed before you go to sleep."

"Can't I stay here or at a friends house?"

"No, the decision is final."

"Why?! I don't understand why I can't stay at Amanda's!"

"Because, honey it's too long. Just suck it up and make the best of it."

"Whatever. Peace out homie. I'm goin to bed."

"Goodnight. Love you."

"Night homie G."

I go around the corner and run up the stairs to my room and get ready for bed. What if everyone at the ranch hates me? What if they make me work the whole time? I keep thinking negative thoughts to myself until I finally fall asleep around 1:00 a.m.. Before I know it, my mom is in my room calling my name for me to wake up.

"Ugh. Moommmmm I'm awake go away."

"Okay Hun, get up and get dressed. I'm gonna make you some breakfast just come down when you're ready!"

"Okay. Get out of my room."

Mom leaves my room and gently closes my door behind her. I roll out of bed onto my floor and slowly get up. I go into my bathroom that is built onto my bedroom and throw some cold water on my face. I wake up a little bit, then go in my room to pick out an outfit. The weather is warm, so I decide on some dark jean short shorts with a white lace tank top that has a floral pattern. For my shoes, I decide on some simple black Aeropostale flip flops. For my makeup, I decide to go light. A little pink eye shadow and some black mascara to cover my lashes. When I'm done getting ready, I make sure all my bags are packed and I throw a couple last minute things into them then go downstairs. I drag my bags out of my room and bring them to the bottom of my stairs then go over to the kitchen table with my mom.

"Good morning honey! Try to eat fast, we're leaving in ten minutes."

"Ten?!"

"Yep. Eat up lazy bones."

I wolf down my breakfast as fast as I can and go put my bags in the car then go back in the house and sit on the couch.

"Time to go honey."

I roll my eyes and get up. My mom goes out to her car and I follow her and sit in the front passenger seat. I lean my seat back and kick my feet up on the dashboard. My mom slaps my leg.

"Ow! What the frig was that for idiot?!"

"Don't call me idiot and take your feet down."

"Pushy pushy."

I take my feet off the dashboard and put in my earbuds to tune my mom out. Before I know it, we are pulling into a long dirt driveway. The ranch. I don't wanna be here. My mom pulls up and stops in front of the house. I can't believe what I see.
