Aspen Montgomery

July 13

I've made it. I'm finally in New York City. The place where I will finally and hopefully have a better life. It was a long way of self doubt and me trying to learn self control. A couple days ago, I decided to take a couple hours off and go to a near by Starbucks to look for an apartment.

|5 days earlier|

I grab my laptop and phone and head out of my car. I lock my car without looking back and walk towards the much needed place where the much needed coffee was. I step inside the air conditioned cafe and immediately get in line. It wasn't a bad line since I was the fourth. I step up to the counter and order a venti iced caramel macchiato, like always.

"Name?" The guy asks.
"Aspen" I answer back. He smiles and tells me to wait next to the other counter. I feel a buzzing sensation in my left hand which draws my attention to my phone. I turn it on and see I got a couple texts.

From Jason:
Hey
From Jason:
Whatcha up to?
To Jason:
Nothing much. At Starbucks.
From Jason:
How dare you go and cheat on me with another Starbucks!
To Jason:
Quit being hurt haha
From Jason:
No can do. Where you at?

"Aspen!" I hear my name and quickly shut off my phone and look up at the guy holding my drink.
"Thank you" I say and smiles at me once again.
"No problem" I slightly smile back and walk over to a bench and table by a window. I pull my phone back out and reply to Jason.

To Jason:
Imma call you haha

I search for Jason's contact and it rings.

"Wassup chicka?" He says laughing.
"Please no" I say while shaking my head.
"Your no fun" he fake pouts.
"Well you know me. Not really into the games and all" I reply while putting my arms up.
"Well then. Where ya at with the driving and all?" He asks.
"Not to far. I decided to stop for a bit to find an apartment" I say honestly.
"You haven't planned that out?!" He asks shocked.
"No. Because the plan to move to New York wasn't exactly planned" I explain to him.
"True true. Well boo I'm going to let you get to it and I'll talk to you later" he says.
"Alright. Love ya. Bye!"
"Bye!"

I open my computer and while it turns on a take a couple sips of my coffee. I log in and begin searching for apartments.

It's probably been an hour and I have finally found a decent apartment. And not only that but I'm sad 'cause I finished my coffee. But anyways, I found an apartment with; one bedroom/ living room space, small kitchenette, and shower and bath. I log off my computer and grab my things and head out while throwing my cup away.

'Back on the freaking road, again' I think to myself.

And here I am now, parking my car and heading to the main counter to get my keys. I walk in and get greeted by a petite lady.

"Hello. How may I help you?" She asks kindly.
"I am here to claim my key" I say.
"Alright. Name?" She asks.
"Aspen Montgomery" I reply.
"Alright, here you go" she says happily as she hands me a pair of keys.
"Thanks"

I walk back out to my car and grab my two duffle bags and back pack and head back in to the elevator.

"Ma'am do you need help?" I hear a deep voice ask.
"Uh maybe?" I say as a question.
"Here" a dark red headed guy says as he takes my duffle bags from me.
"Uh thank you" I say shyly.
"Not a problem. It's what I do" he says with a smile. I click the third floor button and we begin rising. We reach the floor and we step out.

"Are you new here?" He asks.
"Yeah I am. All the way from Cali" I reply.
"Cali. Wow" he comments.
"Yeah. I wanted a change. Ya know?" I say back.
"I gotcha" he adds.

I take my key out and unlock my door. I step in and drop my back pack down and soon after I hear the duffles being set down also.

"Thank you so much" I say kindly.
"No problem. If you need any other help call down to the office" he says as he leaves.

I look around and soon take in my apartment: all furnished kitchen, mattress, couch and chair. I take my things to the lil dresser near my bed and start to unpack and hang things up in my closet. It doesn't take me long as I didn't bring that much stuff. I jump onto my bed and I quickly gain a thought;

'What a difference'

Don't kill me, I know it's short. I'm sorry! It ended how it ended.
