Once again, I woke up with the blinding white lightning in my eyes. I groaned, "Seriously? Can't you dim the lights or something?" Sitting in the chair as she was before, Charlotte. She still wore a sweet smile with her violet eyes dazzling in my direction. "I would but I figured maybe if you wanted to run away, you would be blinded by the light first," Charlotte explained, trying to sound as kind as she could. I could tell that she was angry with me, probably because she needed to reset all the machines and hook me up again. "Caper is waiting outside the door as well, so be my guest if you want to run," She added before tightening her ponytail. "May I offer you any foods or beverages?" I closed my eyes, "Water. Water would be nice, thank you." Charlotte nodded slowly standing up, walking towards the sink and turned on the cold tap. From the angle she was standing at, I could see the back of her neck. I squinted, there was something on the back of her neck. I was about to point it out to her when I realized it was a scar. She turned back to me, her signature smile plastered on her face. "Ok, I know you have questions. Let's hear them," Charlotte said as she handed me the cup of water. I stared down at the clear liquid, thinking of what my first question should be. "What do you think happened to my parents?" I asked finally after a few moments of silence. Neither of us had been expecting that. "Oh... well umm... I'm not sure. There have been theories-," "Theories?" "Yes. Especially about your mother, I-," "My mother? What about her?" "She is rare in our community, very valuable to our survival-," "Why? How was she r-," "WOULD YOU PLEASE ALLOW ME TO FINISH?!?" Charlotte finally snapped. I bit back my tongue seeing how flustered she had gotten. After taking a deep breath and pinching the bridge of her nose, Charlotte spoke.
"There are five blood lines in the Werewolf species. White, Red, Blue, Silver and Shadow. Your blood type is your fur color-," she held up her finger seeing I was about to say something but I closed my mouth holding back a million questions that flooded my mind, "Yes, you can turn into a wolf. At least, you she you be able to. Which is why I need to run some tests on you to find out your abilities... considering you aren't a typical offspring. Now, one question at a time please. Or else I'm not answering," Charlotte finished. I sucked in a breath, "Alright. So. What blood line do my parents belong to?" I figured that should be easy enough, still freaked out over the fact I can turn into a dog but you know, it's chill. She nodded, "Your mother is part of the Shadow bloods. Which, is a smaller blood line. Only three families have it now, after your mother... she broke her bloodline by being with your father. He was a hybrid. A wolf and vampire." I felt my head spinning everywhere. Excuse me? Not only I am apparently a werewolf, but part vampire too? What on earth does that even mean? I have so so so many questions. Nothing could come out of my mouth though. The words on the tip of my tongue but my throats refused to make any noise.
I decided to take a sip of water that I was gripping onto, it felt refreshing but still my head was spinning everywhere. There was a beep. I hadn't noticed Charlotte stand up but she was on her feet going towards the door. She whispered something to Caper who, not very subtly responded with, "You want me to watch that disgrace?" Charlotte snapped quickly back at him then left him. He groaned before taking a few steps in then closing the door behind him. Silence. Talk about tension. So I decided to do what came naturally to me, sarcasm. "Lovely to see you too Cap," I said sweetly with a matching smile. He didn't even look in my direction, "Caper to you. Let's get something straight. We are not friends. You were a mission and I succeeded. That's it." I snorted. "You succeed by allowing me to get bitten by a vampire? Very nice indeed," I rolled my eyes at his glare he shot me. "You would dead without me! Especially since your were supposed to be killed on sight before I received different orders!" Caper growled at me and that's when I saw his eyes flicker to a copper color. I felt myself flinch, along with a noticeable gasp. Then, for just a second, his expression softened and I would bet my life his eyes filled with regret. But he dropped his gaze towards the floor. Then why did you say that you needed me? I continued to stare at him, this was not even close to the person I met. "Hi, I'm Martie. It's not very nice to meet you Caper. Maybe next time try not to be such a dick to someone that has not idea what is happening to them and doesn't even know where they are," I told him in a long breath, "Oh. Thanks for not killing me. I'm sure you need that kind of praise to help your ego." I closed my eyes feeling light headed after that little rant.
Shoes shuffled on the marble flooring and a cabinet door opened and closed. Then there was a presence besides me. "Here. This helps with headaches," Caper said quietly, his hand held outstretched towards me with a purple tablet in his rather large palm. I picked up the tablet then dropped it into my drink then before he was able to pull his hand away, I grabbed it and pulled him towards me. Pain soared throughout my shoulder. I couldn't pay attention to it though, Caper had stumbled a bit from my force and his face was so close to mine. His eyes were wide with shock and didn't dare move away. I locked my gaze on his, "I don't care who you think I am. I don't give a fuck if you think I'm a disgrace. Don't you dare lie that you need me. Because I won't be there for you when you do." Once again, I render him speechless. Neither of us move. Just staring at each other, his eyes turned into marbles allowing no emotion to seep through. How could he do that so well? I had no idea what my face looked like at this point, I couldn't even tell how long we had been like this. Someone cleared they threat and I whipped my head towards the noise and releasing his hand in one motion. Caper turned calmly, his arm dropping to his side, I could see out of the corner of my eye that his hand I gripped was bright white against his tan. "I leave you two for five minutes and... you know what? I don't want to know what just happened," Charlotte said, her eyes going back and forth between Caper and I. Without a word, Caper brushed by his sister and left, shutting the door a bit too harshly. I didn't flinch though, just glared at the door. "Your brother is a douche," I tell her before I can stop. Charlotte tilted her head back and laughed, "I'm highly aware. He's a bit on the moodier side, but he's very sensitive and tends to guard himself by being that way."Shit.
