"Hey! What the hell Martie?" Caper said as he struggled to follow me through the crowd of people into the house. I don't know why, but after talking with him for a while about school and soccer, I felt the urge to leave. It was like an instinct to get out of here, now. I couldn't stop myself as I continued to push through everyone, shoving my way to the door to escape. Someone opened the door coming in just as I stumbled through the mass of horny teenagers then dashed outside, pushing pass the boy holding two cases of beer. My heels must of fallen off somewhere in the house since I can feel the cold grass against my skin, only encouraging me to break into a full sprint. Everything around me felt like a blur.
My heart pounding in my chest, the burning sensation in my legs and my vision... I couldn't see very well. Nothing was clear, everything mended together in lines of color. It was hard to pinpoint what troubled me more, the fact I didn't feel panicked, or about how familiar this feeling was to me. There was a scent. That's what it was, it smelt of burnt leaves and spices. What am I going to? More importantly, why? First of all, I don't like spices, second of all, why could I hear everything around me as clear as day? Car engines, people talking in shops, dogs barking from the park. The park was at least ten miles away. I found myself in a alley. I blinked, when had I stopped running? Why had I ran? What happened to the smell? What is happening to me?!
After taking a few deep breathes, glancing around myself to see where the hell I was. Downtown, at least five miles from the party. I made it here in no more than...five minutes? It was hard to say, time seemed to have slowed down or stopped completely when I had ran. I've had experienced something like this before, I'm on the soccer field with the adrenaline pumping through my veins. This was different though, I felt more powerful, invincible.
A hand gripped my shoulder, causing me to lash out to the person behind me. My attacker was quicker twisting my arm and pinning it behind my back then holding my against the disgusting alley wall. Why wasn't anyone helping me?! I looked out at street and people milled by without merely a glance. I screamed out. "They can't see you Martie, or hear you for that matter." I knew that husky voice. "Caper?! What the fuck! Let go of me!" I screeched, trying to struggle myself free. It was like I could feel his eye roll from behind my back but he released me. I paused for a moment, recollecting myself from the events that had happened. Then I made a half minded decision. I tackled Caper to the ground. Honestly, I didn't think it would actually work since he was much taller and definitely heavier than me. To my surprise though, I flattened him onto the damp alley floor. Caper had his eyes widened, probably mine were as well since the position wasn't as intimidating as I imagined. "Already working on repopulating Shadow kind? How cute," a hissing voice commented.
I whipped my head to the side, my blood running cold. There stood a group of what looked like emo wannabes, however there was something more. Their clothes were all black, making their white skin glow. Some wore leather jackets and others had their pale arms exposed, all of them wore some sort of boot. The girl-I guess I should say woman since she looked much older than the others-in the front of them all was the one who had spoken. Her snowy white hair cut in a bob and her eyes were black. "You're getting a bit lousy for a guardian Cap, maybe it's time the old dog gets put down," She hissed before snapping her fingers and the people started to advance on Caper and I. We stumbled to our feet, Caper pushing me behind him, "Run. Get out of here. Charlotte will find you." I scoffed, "You're such a guy," I said before stepping around him and then lunged at a blonde boy with a leather jacket and swung my arm, easily connecting her fist with his jaw. I had an want for violence, for blood and Caper was not standing in the way of that. After that, it was me and Caper against... six? Maybe seven of these people? Caper fought like a soldier, all his moves were clean and obviously practiced a hundred times over. Me on the other hand, I could be described as scrappy so I flung myself at them with my arms and legs. My method seemed to be working fairly well, my attacks seemed to have a stronger effect, something like you would see in a movie. I kicked a black haired girl in the gut and she went flying backwards into a dumpster. "Martie get down!" I heard Caper shout, struggling with two vampires himself, I dropped down quickly and the whoosh of a leg went over me. I snapped back up and swung towards the blonde boy, he swiftly caught my wrist and twisted me around. He was quicker and stronger than the others, he had to be older like the Snowy white. I couldn't move, I cry out in pain as my arm was twisted, pain surging through my shoulder. Three boys wearing leather jackets had ganged up on Caper, holding him back. The two girls were slowly standing up from getting brutally knocked down, by Caper mostly. The snowy lady approached me with a wicked grin. "It's a shame I can't kill you now, but I wouldn't dare miss an opportunity to take a sip of Shadow Wolf Blood," she spoke, her fingers tilted my head up. Her touch ice cold. She opened her mouth, showing her perfect white teeth then the sound of a small ping filled the silence between us and her fangs appeared. Of course, vampires. "Don't you do it you fucking blood whore! You know what happens!" Caper shouted as he shoved and kicked the vampires out of his way. Too late. Her fangs had already sunk into my neck. I moaned softly. Woah. I never imagined getting such pleasure from a vampire bite, however I didn't get to experience it for too long as the fangs were ripped away from my neck and the lady went flying backwards. Caper pinned her up against the wall, his hand on her throat, "Tell your master they are about to see the fall of their empire," he hissed at her. The lady only smirked, "With pleasure," before vanishing in a black mist.
My arm was released and I collapsed to the ground, choking trying to fill my lungs up with air. Blood trickled down my neck and down my shirt, it was warm and burned my skin slightly. Caper rushed over, dropping down to my side and picked me up bridal style, "I need to leave now! Make me a portal!" He shouted before running down the rest of the alley, heading straight for the wall. I couldn't process what was happening, I knew he wasn't talking to me, his tone gave that away. Plus I was almost unconscious and had no idea how to make a portal. I didn't think I had lost too much blood but I started to feel lifeless, drifting away in a deep sleep. "Please... Martie I need you," was all I heard before seeing a flash of bright white then passing out in Caper's arms.
