Hakone, Kanagawa Prefecture: 11:00 P.M
The sounds of the RB26 accompanied by the 13b Rotary filled the mountain. As the RX7 was chasing the pearl white R34, it spat flames from its exhaust. The R34 slammed on its brakes as it was approaching the corner, the RX-7 took the opportunity and slid past.
The two cars are halfway down Hakone. The RX7 is ahead, leading the race against the R34. The R34 starts to close the gap with its sheer power.Both cars sped past the next corner at very high speeds. The RX7 driver yanks on the handbrake, and the RX7 breaks instantly into a drift, losing a significant amount of speed. Nikko suddenly stomps on his brakes as he saw himself inching closer to the RX7. The boost level of the R34 drops tremendously.
"Damn, he did that on purpose." shouted Nikko as he sees the boost pressure dropping, "Turbo lag..."
Nikko starts to see the RX7 pull away. Nikko downshifts to 3rd gear and then to 2nd. The R34 climbs to the redline as he keeps downshifting. As he's on the straightaway in 4th, he sees the RX7 drifting the next corner. Nikko downshifts to third and keeps his foot on the throttle. As he clears the next corner, he then sees the RX7 drifting into a right hand corner, widening the gap. Nikko hits the clutch and shifts into 4th gear, the speedometer is climbing to 210 km/h. Nikko then notices a peculiar thing on the road, the same puddle he encountered on the way up. He devises a plan in order to catch the RX7.
"That puddle, I'll try it, even if it is pretty stupid." thought Nikko.
Nikko taps on the brakes twice, rapidly, and downshifts to 3rd gear, while turning his steering wheel to the left to pull a feint drift. The R34 breaks traction, and slides through the puddle without losing much speed at all. The spectators see the splashes of water coming from the air and duck to avoid getting wet.
"Wow, that was really crazy."
"I got hit by the water...why?!"
"The R34's concentration increased a lot, but the RX7 is still ahead."
"The RX7 is the crowd favorite and a local, there is no way that newbie R34 can catch him."
The R34 shifts up to 4th gear and is still sitting at 210 km/h with the R34 at 7000 RPM. Nikko sees the next corner and downshifts to 3rd gear and turns the wheel to the left, gripping the apex of the next corner. As he clears the next corner, he is greeted by the S-curves. Nikko tenses up a bit as he sees he is going way too fast for the next corners. He brakes and downshifts to 3rd and to 2nd. He clears the 4th S-curve and notices a small cloud of smoke hiding around the corner.
"No way! I...I've closed the gap, but...how, it seems like the RX7 was going to win." thought Nikko. "Unless..."
Nikko remembers the sound of the RX7 from the beginning of the start of the race, along with a few of the corners where the RX7 slows down significantly to block Nikko in order to drop the boost levels of Nikko's R34.
"The RX7 downshifted to 2nd gear when he does that, I heard the revs climb and fall 4 times when he's does something like that. The sudden acceleration is impossible for a car like that, it looks close to stock, if he were running a high amount of power...then he wouldn't be an idiot and waste the tires like that. There would need to be a lot of downforce to get a car with high power to even grip, especially for an FD."
Nikko sees the next corner and downshifts to second, seeing the cloud of smoke increase in size as he speeds after each corner.
"The RX7 has to be a single turbo. The low RPM band is where he gets most of the power, but just because you're a single turbo, doesn't mean you don't have turbo lag as well."
