Obligations|Epilogue

Several years later.

Third person

"Mommy! Daddy! Wake up!" The four year olds yelled, jumping on their parents bed. "Sasori... Miyu... it's too early for this." Gin groaned, rolling over and wrapping his arm around his lover. "But Daddy it's time to get up! We wanna play!" Miyu pouted. "You heard that, Gin. It's time to get up, they wanna play with you." Athena snickered. "Oh? And what're you gonna be doing? Not snoozing here." He chuckled. "I'm going to do exactly that Gin." She playfully taunted. "Oh no you wont." He playfully pushed her onto the floor, knowing it wouldn't hurt her. The twins giggled as they watched their Father tickle their Mother. "G-Gin! Let me up! I can't breathe! Stop t-tickling me!" She struggled beneath his grip, one hand holding her arms above her head, the other tickling her mercilessly. "Are you gonna get up?" He loosened his grip for a second. Big mistake. Athena flipped them over, now tickling her husband. "A-Alright, alright! I'm sorry!" He tried to hold back his laughter. She got up and dusted off her shirt, all while sticking her tongue out at Gin. "Well, I guess it's time to play. Let Mommy and Daddy get dressed and we'll come out and play okay?" Athena cooed. "Okay!" They beamed in unison, running out the door and closing it. Athena smiled and giggled a bit, going to her closet and looking through clothes while humming. Gin walked up behind her, wrapping his arms around her waist and sitting his head on her shoulder. "Athenaaa." His groggy voice groaned into her ear, sending shivers down her spine. She turned around, cupping his face with her hands. "Giiiinnnn." She mimicked his voice, giggling after. He kissed her forehead and stuck his tongue out. "Haha. Very funny." He opened his eyes, rolling them and setting them on her. "I love your eyes." She sighed, placing her fingertips on his cheekbones while caressing them. "I don't know why." He chuckled, leaning down to kiss her lips. Their lips met and Athena couldn't help but reminisce at all the things they'd been through. She pulled back and smiled warmly up at him. "Time waits for no one, let's get dressed and play with our kids." Gin chucked and shut his eyes again.

The four year olds waited patiently outside their parents door. It was definitely a trait they'd gotten from their father, Athena was the farthest thing away from patient. Patience was a virtue she simply didn't posses. Miyu was a bright, beautiful young girl who had taken her father's looks. Silver hair with a purple tint, beautiful blue eyes, but her mother's facial shape. Sasori was a playful handsome boy who also had his father's eyes, but his hair didn't have the purple tint. His facial shape was that of his father's and most of his traits were that of Gin's as well. Sasori was very outspoken, very sly. He didn't always say what he was thinking, but when he did he was very detailed and open. Miyu was quite the opposite. She had a hard time making friends, but when she did she was playful. She was a kind child with a beautiful soul. She had a hard time with strangers though, always hiding behind her mother or father's leg.

Athena and Gin had put on their Shihakshou's and walked out the door to find their kids already outside on a swing set Gin had built in Squad Three's barracks for them. Gin had gotten back his title of Captain, but with a few... terms. Athena had the opportunity, but turned it down and was happily placed in Gin's Squad as a Third Seat. They ran up to their children, happy to push them on the swings. This was the life Athena always begged for. This is what she'd dreamed about many years ago, with her simple little crush on her fellow Captain. "Mommy? How did you fall in love with Daddy?" Miyu called up at her mother, making the older woman smile and look over at her lover. "Well, to be honest, I've been in love with your father since I met him." She began to tell the story, except for the gorey details the children didn't need to hear. She told them how their real grandfather was a mean man, a man who tried to hurt her very bad. She told them how their father had heroically left the Soul Society to help Mommy smile again. She told them how she left with him in search for love, but that things went very rough. She told them about her lonely years, but about how her and Gin found love again. She told them about him saving her life from the bad man and her finally defeating him and finding out she was going to have them. She told them about how their Daddy got his job back and vowed to stay by their side. In the end, she cried a bit. They'd been through so much, yet here they were; Side by side. "I hope someone loves me like Daddy loves you." Miyu smiled up at her mother. Those words warmed her heart, so she smiled kindly down at her child. Miyu got off the swing and pulled her parents together for a group hug, and not long after little Sasori joined too. "Hey Miyu, Sasori! Look, Uncle Ulquiorra and Aunt Orihime are here!"

The two kids ran towards their aunt and uncle, hugging their legs. Athena remembered when Ulquiorra awkwardly explained how he finally felt human emotion. How he'd fallen for a human girl. He said she was only only person he'd ever wanted to save so bad, and he'd hated every minute he had to be so cold to her. He didn't understand half of what he'd felt at the time, but to his sister it was clear he was in love with Orihime. Ulquiorra looked at his sister, and finally smiled at her for the first time in years.

Athena smiled back.

'I'm so thankful it's ended this way. After all, I was obligated to have a good ending.'
