Chapter 9 Back to Forks

Edward's POV

The days since the funeral have passed quickly yet at the same time they seem to drag on. I have spent my time lost in thought yet still being productive. Good thing I am a vampire and can do many things at once. My mind has been mourning Bella yet it has not stopped my body from packing. Part of me wants to curl up into a ball in the corner of my room and give in to my grief but then I remember that Bella is waiting for me in Denali. At least what is left of her. It is because of me that she is now damned like the rest of us so I have to make sure that she makes the best of this existence. I have to make sure that she is not tempted by the snake.

She will never drink human blood if I have anything to say about it. I am still amazed that she was able to stop mid hunt when she smelled those hikers on her first hunting trip. Just proves that she is the perfect woman for me. She is sweet and innocent and I will make sure she stays that way.

I was still a little shocked that Bella yelled at me when she first awoke. I was able to distract her thankfully but I am going to have to be careful who I let influence her. I think I will encourage her to spend as much time with Esme as possible. Esme is the perfect housewife and role model. She is sweet and demure and she never raises her voice to Carlisle. Even when she gets onto Emmett about rough housing in the house she does it without raising her voice and without sounding like a bitch. Good thing Rosalie already hates Bella, I definitely don't want her influencing my mate. She may have grown up around the same time as I did but Rosalie is too strong willed. Even my favorite sister is a little too independent for my taste. Since Alice can see the future she doesn't need anybody. She is very self-reliant and would not tolerate being told what to do.

I definitely need to keep Bella from the Denali sisters. Tanya's thoughts in particular are unladylike. I don't want them turning my sweet Bella into a whore. She was already becoming more aggressive and I don't know how long I will be able to keep her at bay. I'm going to have to propose to her soon so that we can get married and finally be together.

Alice's POV

The days since my epiphany have been much happier for me. My shopping spree was just what I needed to lift my spirits. That and accepting that Jasper was no longer "My Jazz!" Also, since my epiphany, my visions seem to have gotten clearer and stronger. Not only have I seen the many 'almost kisses' between Jasper and Bella, but I have also seen the problem developing with Laurent and Victoria.

So far, the plan that Jasper has come up with seems to be a sound one. Edward will be a little difficult to convince but he has always relied on my visions so once I show him he will reluctantly cooperate. So far, Bella hasn't made any decisions to sacrifice herself to Victoria which is great. After Phoenix, I learned to keep a diligent watch on Bella's decisions. I still can't believe she was able to plot and escape from both a psychic and an empath who also happens to be a great strategist.

Bella will definitely keep Jasper on his toes. She really is perfect for him. I can't believe I didn't see this before. My prior visions of her as a vampire didn't show her with Edward, I just assumed that when she was smiling up at someone with such love on her face that it was Edward since she was so taken with him in the beginning. But now that I think of it, they were a poor match. Bella is an old soul but she is not old fashioned. Her mother raised her to be independent and Edward's Victorian ways will quickly start to get under Bella's skin now that she is a vampire.

I can't believe I mistook Edward's protectiveness for love. Edward has always hated that he is a vampire but I thought it was just loneliness. I thought Bella would solve that for him and he would become less broody and finally embrace this life that we have. Bella is now a vampire though and Edward is more broody then ever. When we get back to Alaska things are going to get interesting.
