"How's studying going?" Carol asked. I looked over at Carol with heavy eyes. "That well, huh?" Carol chuckled. "Well, you have been studying for a few hours."
"Hours?" I groaned. "I feel like I've been here for a century."
"Why don't you take a break? Get some fresh air?"
"Because I gotta get as much in this head as possible before tomorrow."
"Yeah, because I'm sure you're gonna have a patient with frostbite tomorrow." Carol smiled. "Come on." Carol closed my book and pulled me out the door. Daryl sat off to the side, restringing his crossbow as he sat along the ledge. "Time to punch the clock and make the casseroles." Carol smiled at Daryl.
"What?" Daryl asked in confusion.
"Make dinner for older people, moms who need a break, people who can't cook. Get to meet a lot of the neighbors that way."
"Alright." Daryl scoffed.
"Have you taken a shower yet?"
"Mm-hmm."
"Take a shower. I'm gonna wash that vest. We need to keep up appearances, even you."
"Hey, I ain't startin' now."
"I'm gonna hose you down in your sleep." Carol smiled before turning to me. "Walk around, Michaela. You need to take a break. I don't want to hear that you went straight back to studying after I leave, got it?"
"Seriously?" I groaned.
"Yes, seriously."
"Carol, I gotta study or I won't be at my best in the infirmary."
"And I said you need a break. Take a break, or I'll hide the books from you. Got it?"
"Yes, mom." I chuckled.
"Good." Carol walked down the steps and headed down the street.
"Ya look ridiculous." Daryl called after her, mocking her powder blue jacket before resuming working on his bow.
"Wanna do somethin'?" I asked.
"Nah."
"Carol's makin' me take a break from studyin'."
"Good, ya need a break."
"Yeah, but what good is a break if ya don't do anythin'?" Daryl shrugged his shoulders. "Well, I guess I could ask Spencer to show me around."
"Who?"
"Spencer Monroe, Deanna's son. He offered to give the the grand tour yesterday."
"No."
"Why not?"
"Because you're married and have no business walkin' around with some other guy."
"Then it's settled." I grabbed Daryl by the arm and dragged him down the steps, forcing him to follow me.
"This is stupid."
"Walkin' around town is stupid?" Daryl didn't respond. Daryl and I walked in silence as we slowly made our way around town. I showed him the infirmary and the library, and we eventually found the garden, pantry, and the armory. Alexandria was peaceful, even with everyone buzzing around doing their daily jobs. We stopped to talk to a couple of people who greeted us, well... mainly me, Daryl kept silent. "All this place needs is a bar and it'd be perfect."
