The small room was quite dark. It would have been pitch black if it had not been for the dim light that emitted from the sad, lonely light bulb which hung from the paint - peeling ceiling. The ceiling fan groaned at every turn, sending a "message" to its owner that it needed oiling.

The clank of a mug broke the eerie silence.

There she was. Clad in a black hoodie and crime papers in one hand, seated in the semi bright room was no other than Taylor, herself.

A frustrated sigh escaped her lips for the umpteenth. She placed her thick, black rimmed glasses down and closed her dry eyes for a moment. Her mind went back to three months ago.

They closed the case too early, allowing the fire that fueled them to solve the murder case to put out just like that. Their reward? A 15-year-old girl dead by a lake - drowned to death - because they gave up searching for the killer.

"If you haven't closed the case that early that girl would still be breathing!!"

"Look, her time was up. Just accept it, alright? Why are you so worked up anyway?" Carl asked Taylor, while lighting a cigarette.

"Because I know what it's like to lose someone you love..." Taylor spat back and Carl replied her with a scoff.

"If this is the work you do here, then I want out. I want be transferred..."

"To?"

"Anywhere but here!!"

The grandfather's clock struck twice. 2 a.m.

Taylor's stomach growled at her for neglecting it.

"Alright! Alright! You win! Gosh!" she cursed at her stomach.

She made sure that her apartment was locked and left for the nearest convenient store to grab a bite.

After turning around two corners, the wind picked up speed. Trees by the roadside swayed from side to side and leave painted the tarred road.

A storm was coming.

The bell rang, signaling everyone in the store that they had another visitor. Taylor made her way to the coffee machine and made herself a cup of precious liquid.

After paying the lady at the counter, she hurried to the exit. She did not pay attention to the incoming girl and crashed into her.

"What the hell !!" Taylor screamed as the hot drink scalded her hand.

The paper cup landed on the floor and that was the end of the liquid.

"Look at what you did! Open your eyes!"

The girl shot her a disgusted look.

"Oh! So it's my fault? Well, if you were not so preoccupied with whatever you were doing, you could have avoided me and my jacket would not have been ruined!"

Both of them entered the store. Taylor went straight to the coffee machine and the girl went to grab a late midnight snack.

A pair of blue hypnotizing eyes watching the duo's movement. All she could do was to shake her head at how childish they were behaving.
