The sound of forks and knives hitting the plates is what dominated the room. No one had said anything yet.

Where was the talking about business?

Tom and his wife, Ellis were sitting next to each other with Gretchen and James sitting at the heads of the table.

I looked over to Dallas who was playing on his phone under the table. I stealthily grabbed his phone and sat it under my thigh. He had to suffer through this like me.

He groaned and started to pick at his food. I smiled to myself and started to eat my food too.

Someone needed to say something or the silence was going to cause my head to explode.

"So, about the investments," James started to speak. Thank the lord.

An hour later dinner was finished. Gretchen and Ellis, one of the guests, had cleared the table and taken the dishes to the kitchen.

When they returned Gretchen was carrying a bottle of wine and Ellis had some type of dessert in her hands.

Cheese cake and Riesling go perfect with each other. James started to cut the cheesecake while Gretchen poured out wine into her cup. She went to pour some into Ellis's cup but Ellis stopped her.

"I cant." When Gretchen gave her an odd look so continued. "We're expecting." She said and placed one hand on her stomach and one had on Tom's hand. He looked over at his wife with adoration.

"Congratulations." James said.

A baby.

My hand subconsciously started to rub my own tummy. When I caught myself doing it, I ripped my hand away.

I'm not pregnant.

It's just a scare. It's just a scare.

They truly seemed happy about the baby. They looked content with their lives, but who wouldn't be with their lives. A giant corporation that paid them millions, an extravagant house that I'm sure they have, a perfect partner, and a baby. What more could someone want in life.

"How far along?" The words tumbled from my mouth unexpected. When Ellis looked at me with a weird look I gave a warm smile. This was the first thing I had said at the dinner.

"Not very far. We found out yesterday." She answered and Tom leaned in a gave her a kiss on the cheek.

"What are you hoping for?" I felt a kick on my leg under the table. I shot Dallas a look and he returned it with raised brows.

"I guess it doesn't matter as long as it's healthy." Tom answered.

Ellis laughed, "Oh, tell her the truth. He wants a girl so she can be Daddy's little princess." Dallas passed me a piece of cheesecake with strawberry sauce drizzled on top. I practically drooled.
