I waited for the girls at our breakfast table in the cafeteria, where we meet most mornings. After a while of me pretending to have someone super important to text. Blake was the first to show up.
"Hey Wit," we hugged. "Is it just me or are you glowing?"
I shrugged. "It may just be sweat. First-day-of-school-jitters. Totally normal."
"Gross," she laughed. "Any new-school-year resolutions?"
"Oh yea, sure, um... I think I'm going to maybe, I don't know, talk to Joshua Turner this year. Tell him how I feel? Nothing major."
"Ooh! Did I hear about the infamous Joshua Turner? Number seven on the football friend and number one in Wit's pants?" Harley's chirp interrupted us. Lena followed closely behind.
"You guys look great," Lena said. "What's that lip you have on Blake? It looks so good on you."
They sat down across from each other and next to Blake and I.
"Only you remember lip stick names Lena," she laughed.
We all shared embraces and waited for Kenslie.
"Back to business, did I just hear Witness might confess her love for Josh?"
Lena looked at Harley and rolled her eyes. "What is it with you and wanting people to get together?"
"What? I can't want my friend's to have a hot barista or cute baller on their arm?" Lena lightly shoved her.
"I have a feeling I'm not the only one that needs to be honest to themselves? Hm?" I nodded at Lena.
"Not even two minutes into high school and we're already talking about guys? Where are my female empowerment females?" Blake joked.
As if on cue, Harley's current boy-toy, Jackson came and gripped her waist from behind her.
Harley squeezed him and said, "We can't support the movement without getting a little movement?"
"Gross."
"Ew."
"Where's Kenslie?" Lena noticed Kenslie was the only one not here.
"I see her, there she is." Blake pointed at another table. She was showing a new student around. "Who's that though?" she said pointing at the guy she was with.
"That," Harley added, "is someone's new conquest. I say Lena. If she doesn't have the boobs to talk to Chris, she can move on to something new."
"I say Blake. She doesn't have any guy drama right now." We all looked at the source of the voice. The boy-toy.
Blake sarcastically smiled.
"Jackson, honey, I know you're new to this, but girl talk stays strictly between the girls." Harley kissed his cheek. We all turned to the bodies walking towards us. "Kens!" She released Jackson's grip and approached Kenslie. They did their little double cheek tap kiss thing.
"Hey girls, you all look so cute. Anyways, I want you to meet Alex, Alex Sampson," she gestured to the guy next to her. "He's a transfer from Bridgemont High."
"The Bridgemont bitches! Happy you got away?" Blake responded.
We all looked at her in shock.
"What she means is, we've heard things. Not so good things," I added.
"Something like that," he laughs.
"Anyways, I've been assigned to him for the beginning of the school year, since we have first and lunch together."
"You got your schedule early? No fair," Lena pouted.
"Stud Co perks," Kens smiled. "Anyways, he'll be sitting with us until he gets settled down. Cool?" She turned to him.
"Cool." He smiled back.
