"I hate this family" I Yell slamming the door of my bedroom shut. This was just another day in my life, Father comes home drunk and I get blamed for everything that has gone wrong in his life. Mother never cares she just sits there and watches. I walk into the bathroom to examine the new bruise forming under my right eye pushing my dark brown fringe to the side so I could see it clearer. Bringing my right hand up to touch it I wince at the pain. I stared at my reflection in the mirror, looking deeply into my brown eyes as I wet a washcloth with cold water and walk over to my bed laying down, placing the damp cloth on my face. I throw in headphone hoping it would stop the inevitable tears that were forming from flowing down my cheek. I knew that I should just leave and never come back but i only had one more year until I could go to college and get out of this horrid house. I knew my father would never let me go so I've been save up ever since I could work. Sometimes I come home and the money's missing. That just means dear old dad found my stash and used it to buy more booze. I'd never see that money again so I had to start over. Which was what cause this fight. I came home to find the money that was about two years of salary gone. This time I couldn't just ignore it. I just had to open my big mouth right when he walked through the door. I told him I would leave. I still can hear his voice in the back of my head telling me if I left he would hunt me down and kill me. That's when he gave me the bruise. I must have dozed off after that because the next thing I remember was waking up to my window slowly opening. As a watched I was sure this had to be a dream. A dark black hand slowly wrapped under the window and opened it the rest of the way with such force I was surprised it didn't shatter. The loud noise that it made ensured I was fully awake. Suddenly I realized I couldn't move. My fear had paralyzed me down to the bed. Slowly the creature crawled through the window. As it stood on the floor it began to take shape. It was a completely black silhouette. Almost like a shadow, no that's exactly what it was. I turn around slowly thinking I would see the owner of this shadow standing behind me but no one was there. As I turn back I realized the shadows face was just inches in front of me. I pushed myself so my back was flush against the wall. The shadow kept creeping closer turning its head every now and then almost like it was studying me. Then he extended his hand wanting me to take it. So many thought were racing through my head at this moment and before I knew it, Almost like my hand was working without my brains consent, my hand was slowly placed in the silhouette of darkness. It had a gentle grip as it slowly pulled me off the bed towards the window. This shadow was completely mesmerizing. I felt as though I didn't have full control of my bodies action. One foot after the other i got closer to that window. My mind was screaming no pull away now don't take another step but my movements continued. With all the screaming going on inside my head it was as if it was taking hours to get to where the shadow was obviously leading me. That's when I realized the shadows grip got tighter, much tighter. The tightness awoke my senses and I finally realized what i was doing. I tried prying my hand out of the shadows grip only to have the shadow change from my hand to my wrist with an inescapable grip. The shadow swiftly glided out the window floating above the city below pulling me lightly as if asking me to join him. At first he seemed to be begging but then his attire changed completely. He seemed to get annoyed and started pulling roughly. I grabbed the side of the window sill with a death grip and my feet were trying desperately to keep their balance. I looked down seeing the little specks of light from the cars on the streets below and with one final tug on my wrist from the shadow I lost balance and started to fall. You know how they say your life flashes before your eyes before you die? I didn't see that, It was just darkness that overtakes you into a deep deep sleep. As I was just about to hit the ground and except eternal slumber, I felt two arms swoop down and grab me. The shadow caught me and was now carrying me, flying above the place where I almost took my last breath. The shadow flew higher and higher. There was two ways I saw this going either I struggle and risk falling again or let the shadow take me where he wanted which was probably just to kill me somewhere else, But I saw it as my only option to live a little longer. A little while passed and we arrived over an ocean that had an island in the distance. The shadow had loosened his grip on me, probably thinking I wouldn't want to jump from this height but at this point it seemed like my only choice of escape. I waited until we got to a point that I knew I would be able to swim to the island. Once I Had let go of my fear of falling I quickly pushed myself out of the shadows arms smacking the water harder than I thought I would have. My back felt like I just landed on concrete. I opened my eyes under the water looking up to see the shadow searching the water for me.He search for a short time but long enough to make my lungs feel like they were on fire before giving up and flying away.Once i was sure he was gone i took the opportunity to get the air I desperately needed. Swimming to the island was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Every Time I thought I was making progress I realized the current just pulled me back to where I started. When I finally got to the shore, I collapsed on the sand from fatigue. I laid there for what felt like hours until I fell fast asleep in the sand.
