So this set has been a key part of my childhood and then my teens when I rewatched it. Well recently I got bored and decided to rewatch them again.
I've always loved the plot line because it connects in tiny ways that just makes the writer in me happy. Plus it doesn't focus on just one character. It goes through the backstory of most of the characters and integrates it cunningly. The characters and the places are so well thought out and explained that everything is incredibly vivid and appeals to all the senses. It makes it look as if this was a long ago place that we lost. I especially love how the characters all develop throughout the whole series because in some movies the characters only slightly develop.
Now it's so hard for me to even think of who my all time favourite character is. I'd say if I had to choose the first would be Legolas and the second would be Aragorn. I don't choose them for looks though like a few people. Yes I see they are good looking, but the way te progress in the story is truly inspiring. I mean at the beginning Legolas basically hated dwarves and by the end he was best friends with Gimli. If that doesn't show a drastic character development then I don't know what does. Aragorn also has a drastic character development throughout the series. In the beginning he is hiding from his fate because he fears he will become his predecessors, but by the end he doesn't care if he dies. He only wants to save Middle Earth for the people and he eventually realised he is not his predecessors. Even when he is crowned king he doesn't make it about himself he makes it about everyone.
So yeah that's why I really like the Lord of the Rings trilogy and will rewatch it all the time.
