Eight: Sharon

The police arrives rather quickly with an ambulance. Nathan is getting his nose looked at while Sharon and a few other patrons are being questioned by police. Jay and I are standing off to the side.

"What happened in there?" I hiss at Jay.

"Nothing." He replies coldly. Jay's arms are crossed and he refuses to look at me. Instead, he's glaring menacingly at Nathan.

I scoff. "Nothing? Do you honestly want me to believe in that?"

"Yes," he says stupidly.

I shook my head and let out a frustrating breath. "Piercings, this is serious. You could go to jail."

Jay chuckles and looks over at me. "Prison doesn't scare me, kitty."

That stupid chuckle causes me to narrow my eyes. A nearby officer walks over to us. "Okay, you are coming with us, pretty boy." The man says while taking off his cuffs.

"What?!" Me and Jay ask at the same time.

"You heard me." The officer says as he reaches for Jay's arm.

Jay pulls his arm away. "Woah! He swung first! I was just defending myself!" Jay says hurriedly and shoots me a glance. "You saw what happened, right?"

I look down at the ground sheepishly. "I'm sorry. I didn't see how the fight started." I couldn't force myself to lie and I didn't want to look up at Jay either. I knew right then that I really let him down.

The officer speaks up with a grunt. "Well Mr. Markey says differently."

"So what? You're just going to believe every word he says like it's the law!" Jay snaps at the officer. I glance up to see a pissed off Jay and officer in a tense stare off.

"Excuse me," a soft voice says, "I saw what happened. Nathan threw first." My eyes turn to slits as they land on Sharon. She pops out of nowhere at just the right time. "Jay acted out of self defense."

The officer nods his head and turns back to Jay as he puts his cuffs away. "Sorry for the misunderstanding. Do you want to press charges?"

Jay stares at Sharon with a whole new look in his eyes. He doesn't take his eyes off of her as he speaks. "No, officer."

The officer lumbers off with a grunt. Jay and Sharon are just left standing there. Both of them are gazing into each other's eyes. It's enough to make me puke.

"Thanks," Jay breathes out in a sexy tone. I throw him a crazy look. Did he just thank that fake succubus or am I hearing things?

Sharon bats her fake eye lashes at Jay. "I was just telling the truth." She says in that sweet tone of hers. It's enough to make me sick.

I'm really not liking having to bear witness to this. When I look past Jay and Sharon, I see I'm not the only one who is hating this. Nathan is sitting on the end of the ambulance and is just glaring daggers at Jay. He's scowling at the two of them.

For the benefit of all, I grab Jay's arm and tug on it. "Let's go," I growl, snapping them out of their trance.

"Uh, yea...sure." Jay says a bit absentmindedly. I roll my eyes and just drag him away to his motorcycle. I sit down on the back of it feeling happy to be reunited with my one true love. Jay just sits down on it gruffly and let's out a dreamy sigh.

"What was that?" I ask him while tilting my head.

Jay stares off into the distance. "Profound words," he says in another dreamy sigh. I let out a small laugh and Jay chuckles. Jay looks over his shoulder at me. "Shut up." He says in a playful tone.

"Lover boy," I tease him.

He rolls his eyes. "It's going to be six. Don't you have to check up with someone or something?"

"Not like anyone cares..." I mutter and don't quite finish my thought as I realize who I'm talking to. Jay raises an eyebrow at me before turning back around.

Now that I think about it, where is my phone? I pat down my pockets as the motorcycle roars to life. Patting Jay's shoulder, I tell him to wait.

"Wait for what?" He asks, but I'm already off the bike and back inside.

I swiftly make my way to the booth I was sitting at, hoping my phone might be there. "Maybe it just fell out of my pocket." I mutter to myself.

When I get there, I find nothing. Taking a deep breath, I try to calm myself down. "Ok, Brea. Maybe it fell on the floor." As I make my way of the place I carefully check out the floor.

I actually bump into someone. Looking up, it's the last person I would want to see alive. Sharon raises an eyebrow. "Looking for something?" She asks me with a smug smile. Probably satisfied from me being in distress.

"I'm looking for a single fuck to give, but it appears there's none. Do you know where I can find one?" I ask her with a smirk.

Sharon's face falls and she's scowling at me. She stomps her foot and says pathetically, "Well at least people give a fuck about me. Nobody even glances your way. Not Nathan and definitely not Jay." My fists clench involuntarily at my sides. I'm sure my anger was written all over my face. Sharon gives me a smug smile. "I was just telling the truth." She says with in that sweet tone she used on Jay earlier.

"Karma's a bitch, but I'm worse." I say through gritted teeth and push past Sharon on my way out. Jay gives me a worried look as I stomp over to him. He must be thinking that I have mood swings to be playful one second then pissed off the next. To hell with what he thinks, though! All that's on his mind is Sharon.

I sit down and just slip my arms around his waist. It was really hard to not punch him. I don't say a word to Jay the entire way to my place, except to give him directions. And Jay doesn't ask me what's up either.

When we reach my blue ranch style house, I jump off the bike and race inside without saying bye. I'm in such a rush that I don't even shut the front door. My twin just barely jumps out of the way in time as I head down the hallway in a hurry.

"Woah! What's with you?" Josh asks confused.

"Nothing!" I shout over my shoulder as I slam my bedroom door shut.

Turning on the radio, I rummage underneath my bed and pull out a black shoe box. I look at the contents with a sad smile on my face. My hatred is slowly dissipating, along with the urge to punch someone. Flopping down on the bed with the box, I sigh.

My finger traces the edge of the box as I pull out a picture of a little girl with reddish brown hair and green eyes. "I got some ice cream from Jimmy's. Sharon was there."

I rest my head on my pillow and stare at the picture. In a hushed whisper, I say, "I promise I'll get back at her for what she did. And you know I never break my promises, lil sis."
