Here’s an update! I hope you’ll enjoy reading this one!
Matt
I am actually surprised that John agreed to have the whole gang this weekend. It’s not that I don’t want to be with them. It’s just that, I’m looking forward for some alone time with my father and younger brother. Time where I can talk to them about anything. Actually, things that only a father and his sons are expected to talk about. I always have that special moment with Pete. But deep in my heart, now that I know that John’s my dad, and Mason’s my best buddy, I couldn’t lie that I prefer to be with them than the whole gang. Especially when Kristen will be there.
These past days, after school, I go home as fast as I can to join Mason and Kristen in the tree house. Trust me that when I say I want to be home as fast as I can, I tend to do things I’m not quite proud of. Yesterday, after my physics class, I ran out to the hallways, and planned to throw all my books in my locker then head home. I didn’t sprint. I walk like there’s some kind of commotion going on and I wanted to be out of it. Just when I have a few yards before I reach my locker, my left foot didn’t do its job very well. The next thing I know – I’m lying on the ground, panting, and a girl was standing beside me, knees bent, just like a stranger on a movie who happened to see a dead body and tries to confirm if that person’s indeed dead or not. Exactly like that. And what’s worse is that, she’s stifling her laugh. I knew she saw the ‘fallback’. My back fell to the floor.
‘You alright?’ he asked, teeth flashing. This is not just embarrassing.
I got up as fast as I can, pretended to clean my pants with my hands, then said ‘Yeah. I just..you know..’ I couldn’t let it out of my mouth. It’s horrifying. She’s just staring at me. Waiting for me to finish what I’m trying to say. And she’s smiling the whole time. I don’t know what to make of that.
‘I just..Anyway, I’m okay. I’m sorry if I waste your time.’ I followed.
‘Waste what?’ she inquired. Then I realized that what I said was a total crap.
‘Nothing, it’s just that, you’re staring at me while I’m lying on the ground. Not that you’re checking me out or anything.’ Okay. What am I saying? I’m stuttering. This is one heck of a day.
‘I’m talking too much, aren’t i?’ I said finally when I realized the stupidity I just did.
‘Not really. But it’s good to know t8hat you’re okay.’ She said politely.
‘Yes, thanks.’ I smiled.
‘Okay.’ Then she walked away.
I forgot to ask her name. She looks kind and approachable. She’s cute and beautiful, I must say that. But then, the horror of me sliding down the hallway got the best of me, so I throw my books into my locker and walked as fast, but as careful as I can.
Once I reached the bench below the tree house, I catch up with my breath for a few seconds after running from the gate of our house to tree house. As I inhale fresh air, I heard two voices. That’s Kristen and Mason. They’re not laughing or anything. They seemed serious. I couldn’t make out of what they’re tlking about. But they sound serious. No laughing.
I climb the tree house to make sure they’re alright. Once I was there, they both turned their heads to me and smiled the widest smile their face can tolerate. Actually, it’s only Kristen who smiled that wide. Mason smiled just right.
