Waves of calm continued to wash over Sam throughout class. Unbeknownst to her she had Jasper to thank for that. For the next few weeks the class would be learning about the holocaust and other tragic events that involved the mass murder of innocent people. Call it a morbid fascination but Sam found herself quite enjoying this topic, it reminded her that no matter how shitty her life seemed, things could always be worse and she should consider herself extremely fortunate.
As she was taking notes in her book she dared to sneak a glance at Jasper, who upon noticing her stare snapped his pencil in half, halfway though his own notes. Sam jumped slightly at the snapping sound, thinking quickly she sheepishly offered him on of her spare pencils, pushing it across the desk towards him.
He let out a breath, giving her a small smile and taking the pencil. Well that's a start. She thought.
"I'm Jasper Hale." His voice ringed through her ears like honey, a light southern drawl preset.
Slightly shocked that he actually spoke to her she looked at him with wide eyes. "Samantha. Green." She cringed inwardly at the sound of her shaky voice but her mood brightened as he smiled at her, a soft, kind smile.
The conversation ended there but she didn't really mind, at least Jasper didn't hate her like she originally thought.

As the bell rang signalling the end of school, Sam made her way to the front door where she spotted Bella, hurriedly exiting the building. "Bella! Wait up." She called, jogging over to the seeming gloomy girl.
Bella tuned, waiting for Samantha to catch up with her, the cool Forks breeze whipping through her hair as she ran. Sam quickly reached Bella who was indeed looking pretty sorry for herself. "Hey, are you alright?" Sam asked as the two made their way to Bella's rusty orange truck.
"Yeah... just a weird day." She mumbled. "Hey do I smell?"
Sam rose an eyebrow at the odd question but leant towards Bella regardless, giving her a small sniff. "Um... no. You smell normal to me." She assured. Bella shrugged and hopped into her truck, Sam following suit.

"So, how was your first day?" Lilith asks as her daughter pushes her mashed potatoes around on her plate.
She shrugged. "It was fine. Good actually."
"That's great sweetheart."
"What did you do today?" Sam asks around a mouthful of food.
Her mother gives her a playful glare for chewing with her mouth open, lowering her cutlery and taking a sip of water. "Well, Chief Swan came over today to help me fix up the house, he mowed the lawn and fixed the window shutters..."
