Phoenix's POV
The second I realised I was alone, I picked myself up and rushed to the door.

Locked. Of course it's locked, but that's not an issue for me. What kind of warlock would I be if I couldn't open a locked door? Ha!

Placing my hands over the mechanism, I turned up the heat. I've never been all that great with magic that involves finer, more precise control, but I've never needed to be. Now is no exception.

Grinning to myself, I made my hands hotter and hotter, until the metal mechanism began to melt away. Stupid shifter. Fire is my specialty.

Cautiously, I pried the door open. Perfect, an empty hallway. Now I just have to find my way out of this hell hole. I bet he didn't see this coming.

Kaine's POV
Of course I saw this coming.

I knew he'd try something, so I shifted into a mouse and waited in the corner just outside the room. I did debate for a while whether it was a good idea to let the warlock loose, but I want to see the extent of what he can do, before his magic is weakened. I have a pretty good idea of how strong he is, but I need to see for myself.

Watching as the boy peeked his head out hesitantly, before smirking to himself and strutting down the corridor, I had to stop myself from changing back right away. Such an arrogant boy, nothing I can't fix though.

I followed him as his pace became slower and slower, until he stopped completely. "Stupid rich shifter and his stupid mansion" he muttered under his breath.

Well, now seems like as good a time as any to change back.

"By stupid shifter, do you mean me by any chance? For your sake, I hope not"

Phoenix froze, and slowly turned to face me. To my surprise, his expression didn't say 'fear'. It was more like... 'mildly irritated'.

"Ah, jeez. It's hard enough to get your bearings in this place without having a stalker too. So... mind disappearing for a while, whilst I find an exit out of this giant ass house, and away from you?"

I growled, baring my teeth. Who does this boy think he's dealing with?! I'll rip him to shreds!

I shifted into my wolf form, and lunged at him.

"Aw, I guess that's a no. You're kind cute as a wolf, y'know? But I don't fancy staying here, so back off"

I yelped as Phoenix held out his hands so a triangle shape formed between his overlapped fingers, and the floor disappeared. However, I only yelped to lull him into a false sense of security. I knew he'd try something like this, too. It's all in his file.

Shifting into an eagle, I lunged at him again, this time latching on and digging my claws into his shoulders. He cursed, trying to swat me away but I only dug my claws deeper before I turned back.

Off balance, he fell back, and I landed on top of him, pinning him down.

"Just submit to me, you cocky warlock! You can't win this, you're on my turf, and you belong to me!" I growled, pinning his thrashing form down. I guess someone doesn't like to be dominated.

"I belong to no-one! Especially not a spoilt shifter with anger issues who's used to getting his way! Now get off me you bastard, or I'll torch you!"

"Oh yeah? Not if I use this you won't!" I grinned, reaching into my pocket and pulling out the serum I'd developed especially for him. It takes a while to kick in, so I mixed in some tranquilliser for good measure.

"W-what is that?! Don't use me to test your weird drugs!"

Sensing he was about to use his magic, I stabbed the needle into his arm and forced the plunger down, darting back just in time to avoid the flames that erupted from his body.

"I'll kill you! I'll kill you!" The boy yelled. I sighed, watching as the flames eventually subsided as he lost consciousness. Maybe I overdid it with the dosage, but it's better to be safe. I don't fancy him burning my house down, or trying to cremate me.

"Sleep tight, my little firebird" I grinned, scooping his body into my arms and carrying him back to the bedroom.

~~~
To my surprise and annoyance, Sam was waiting for me, sat on the bed with his arms crossed.
"What? Why are you looking at me like that" I asked, rolling my eyes.
"You. You nearly killed the poor boy!" He yelled, before softening his voice as his gaze fell upon the unconscious warlock in my arms. "Please, try and take this a little more seriously. You really do need to find someone, I know you're capable of love, of empathy. You need someone to bring that out of you, and you'll be a better, more stable person for it. Maybe then the dreams will go away"
"Shut up, Sam. I can't be bothered to deal with you and your life talks today, you're going to give me a headache. Now do me a favour and get out, I need to put my warlock to bed"
Sam sighed, getting to his feet. "You don't need to follow in his footsteps, you know. You're better than that. And I'm only trying to help, I don't like seeing my brother, or anyone, suffer"
"Get out" I hissed, yanking the covers back and throwing the knocked-out warlock onto the bed, before roughly pulling the covers back up over him. I swear, Sam is lucky that I care about him, but one of these days he's going to push me too far.
And I'm afraid of what will happen if I snap.
