Part Three
"Ryan, how do I get you aloooooooone?" Seven sang quietly to me during the lunch period. I ate lunch alone at the top floor of the school as I hadn't made any friends during summer school. Seven noticed that I remained alone so he tried to join me on my lunches as often as possible. That day he sat next to me while I ate my lunch of cold perogies.
He cupped my hand gently as though it was as precious and small as a pearl.
I yanked it away.
"Is your boyfriend back from Jamaica?" Seven asked.
I whipped my head around and glared at Seven. "What do you know about my boyfriend being in Jamaica?!"
Seven grinned wickedly. "TJ has proved to be a trusted ally. When is your boyfriend coming back? Next week? Monday? Friday? Tomorrow? I want to know how much longer we can be together without having to go into hiding."
"First off, when did we start being together?"
Seven chuckled like a madman. "We are together. You can't deny the feelings you have for me." LIES. While Seven was nice and sometimes entertaining the only feelings I held for him were those of extreme annoyance.
"Second, he's coming back this Thursday," I confessed, ignoring what he said.
"Why don't you want to go out with me?!" Seven whined. During the lunch period the third floor of the school remained empty. Thank God no one else stood present. No one else witnessed what was happening to me. But a part of me realized Seven probably wouldn't care even if he did have an audience.
"Because I'm being faithful to my boyfriend just like he's being to me."
"Oh?" Seven looked surprised. "How do you know that he's not cheating on you, Ryan? You think it's not hard to find a boy of the blond-haired blue-eyed variety with all those European tourists at the resort?" He flicked a lock of my blond hair and I smacked his hand away.
I was going to choke TJ with every inch of strength I had in my muscles when I got home. Why did he have to tell Seven every little goddamned thing?! When did they become friends anyhow? And WHY was he helping Seven when he knew that I had a boyfriend?
"Shut up!" I screamed. I felt blood rushing up into my face and I tried to resist the palpable urge to strangle him. Holiday would never cheat on me. Never! He told me he loved me, he assured me of that. We had been together since the second half of grade nine and now I was going into grade eleven. But other people get cheated on. Even people who've been in relationships for years. Why do I think that Holiday and I were different!? NO! Holiday wouldn't cheat on me. Seven had given me a bad case of paranoia.
"You don't know Holiday like I do." I growled.
He held his hands up out on either side of his head as though he thought I was going to arrest him. His brown eyes wide, as though he was innocent. "It's a possibility. You can't just put your fingers in your ears and act like you can't hear me."
I set my lips into a serious line. "Seven the more you talk the more you make me hate you. If you speak another word, I can't promise you that I won't choke you."
Seven's eyes which usually smoldered with passion became cold. "I real-"
And before he could finish his sentence, I stormed off towards the stairwell. I'd rather eat my lunch outside and get a massive heat-stroke then sit there entertaining Seven's ludicrous fantasies.
*
Holiday surprised me on Tuesday night. TJ and I were in our beds, relaxing after a long day of summer heat. TJ had been to the library yesterday, met some boy and was currently talking to him on the phone.
