Part Five

MARCH 2011

Enter: Sebastian Dubois

     The cafeteria was a place of tension amongst the students. There were ten tables in two columns throughout the whole place. My friends, plus Jay-Bird's crew and all of the bad kids sat right at the entrance. All the white kids called it Cafrica even though it wasn't a strictly black table.
       As if the white kids didn't sit together like we all sat together.
       TJ's table was one table away from being the last table in the cafeteria. Bam Bam hadn't fought anyone since the day we beat up the pink haired kid so he was itching for a fight. He put his legs out in the isle, right in the way of the group of guys so they had no choice but to scuff his white Nike Air Force 1s.
      Kobe nudged me in the ribs and pointed to Bam Bam's shoes with a grin on his lips. I wanted to force a smile but I couldn't. How could I knowing what would happen?
       TJ made contact with Bam Bam's shoe. His right leg got caught but he quickly thrust out his left so he managed to keep himself from falling. Bam Bam rose from the table at the same time TJ glared at him. "What the fuck?!" They both cried at nearly the exact same time. Only anger was written on TJ's face while sheer amusement was written on Bam Bam's.
        "You scuffed my shoes, pansy," Bam Bam announced.
        TJ looked back at Travis who stifled a laugh. Ryan's face looked impossible to read and he looked off to the side, betraying his fear. Hunter just looked annoyed. He and Bam Bam used to hang out so he knew all of his tricks. "No I didn't. Now excuse me, I have lunch to be buying," TJ snapped.
       Bam Bam grabbed TJ's  uniform tie with one hand and balled his free hand into a fist. TJ blocked the punch his forearm and then pushed Bam Bam right in the middle of his chest. Bam Bam ended up backing right into the bench on the lunch table and proceeded to fall right on his back.
      TJ didn't cast one look back at Bam Bam while he walked away. He and his friends were well into the serving area by the time Bam Bam got up. His face bright red and his hands shook as he sat back down in his place.
      Everyone at the table fought back a and it made me glad. I didn't have to hide the happiness I felt when TJ stood up for himself. I laughed first and once I started the whole table joined in. Kobe wiped tears from his eyes and Dee snorted.
      "F*ck all of you," Bam Bam sneered. He jumped up from the table and stormed off outside. Probably to bum a smoke off of the grade twelves hanging out underneath the underpass while he burned off his anger and embarrassment.

      While Mr. Park tried in vain to educate us about climate in science class, Kobe spent the whole class texting the girl he currently had a crush on. "She's too good for you, bruh. Girl's rich," Ed warned him many times, but Kobe pursued Pippa Boulstridge anyway.
      Pippa at the front of the class with her best friend Louise Burke (she was the butt of many of The Gang's jokes as she was a black girl who didn't act like they expected a black girl to act).
       "Ugh. You text her," Kobe said, throwing his phone into my lap.

      <PIPPA: I can't hang out tonight.>
      <KOBE: Hey, Pippa, this is Kobe's friend Sebastian. Kobe really likes you and wants to take you out sometime.>

       Okay, so I lied a little. The only thing Kobe liked about Pippa rested between her legs. Kobe was a renowned virgin-hunter, always hooking up with inexperienced girls never to call them back afterwards. He hadn't managed to hit a full home-run in months and lusted after Pippa.
      Pippa glanced back at me and smiled. I had never really noticed how pretty she was until Kobe started going after her. Her hair was long and the colour of flames while her eyes were bright. Pippa snuck a look at me out of the corner of her eyes. They were blue and fringed with reddish blonde lashes. Man, oh man!

<KOBE: I'd like to take you out sometime. I mean, Kobe would.>

<PIPPA: So you wouldn't?>
