We stopped off at her unimaginably bad flat and collected her clothes. She refused to stay in her uniform and refused to borrow clothes from Gemma as she said it was "rude and too disrespectful" as she has "done it before". I only laughed and waited in the car park for her, she insisted on going up to her flat alone.
She changed with the door closed as she didn't want me to see her naked in only her underwear but I protested and argued that she wasn't naked and I should have stayed in my room.
"Can I make a smoothie?" her tired yet excited voice pulled me from the thoughts from a little less than an hour ago.
"What?" I stared at her, she was the most intriguing person to have a conversation with, she was random.
"I was watching this cooking show the other night and this guy made a really nice berry smoothing and I....I don't have a smoothie maker so I thought maybe if you wanted, I could make it for you." Her eyes flickered around the kitchen.
She looked at the blender in the corner of the kitchen for a moment, her eyes hopeful and excited. It was a strange thing to be excited about but I granted her her wish and she ran to the fridge pulling out strawberries and other berries that weren't really in season yet.
I leaned one elbow onto the counter, the palm of my hand holding my chin up as I gazed at the teenager in front of me who seemed to be only two years old as she skipped and hopped around the cupboards.
I watched her face scrunch up into a tight frown as she debated whether she should jump up on the counter or not. She was probably debating whether she shouldn't as it wasn't her home or she should so she can give me the best smoothie ever made.
She jumped onto the counter and I watched as she pulled a long box from her bag which dangled in front of her, only to be dropped when she removed the box. She opened it and I watched with curiously as her face was hidden for a few moments only to be revealed again but this time, she wore glasses.
"Glasses?" I gasped more than asked.
"I'm as blind as my grandma was." She giggled and turned the blender on. I laughed at her as I watched her eyes light up at the change in colour and texture that was happening in the plastic container.
"It's done." She smiled and poured the very pink mixture into a glass and handed it to me.
I tilted the glass back and held my breath as the drink hit my throat. I waited for the taste and smiled instantly. She too smiled and I loved how happy she looked. She looked so happy, as if she'd finally done something right.
"Come on my little barista, I'm cold because of that smoothie, we should wrap up." I smiled cheekily and took ahold of her hand and led her into the living room.
I instructed her to lay down and she did just that so I could cover her with a big cream knitted blanket. I flopped into the seat next to her and pulled her onto me so she was lying directly under me, her face looking at mine, eyes locking with mine as she played with my fingers. She'd only ever told me once she loved playing with fingers. It was a strange obsession but it soothed me too.
"When did you tell everyone to come?" she continues stroking my fingers and I easily warm to the feeling.
"They should be here now baby."
She laughs softly and her lips curl up into a faint smile. I frown in confusion and stroke some of the loose strands of hair out of her face and behind her ear.
