This species has two forms, which will be discussed further in a later entry. Unlike the rest of hell, this species has a fully fledged kingdom and territory within the underworld. This kingdom is run by a king and a queen, per usual, but nowadays is run by a ruthless king who is one of the most powerful creatures to take the form of a hell hound, even though, he isn't a hellhound.

Hunting

this species hunts small creatures that run around on the surface of the world or tiny demonic creatures that occupy hell. sometimes they do come up to the surface to feed on the flesh of the damned humans that roam the earth. Males and females are both loners, so they hunt for themselves.

breeding and pregnancies

unlike most immortal species, hellhounds have only just begun having long-term mates. Despite this, the relationship is more similar to a human marriage and is able to be broken up.

Hellhounds breed at the end of winter, close to spring. This allows the species to breed without over-heating due to their high body temperatures and is close enough to spring for the females to birth a healthy child with plenty of food around. Now a normal question is, how long is their pregnancy? This might seem like an average question, but it explains a crucial point, why they have a breeding season so close to spring without it being during the spring season. The female's pregnancy lasts for five months, this means that they usually get pregnant in the middle of winter and give birth in the middle of spring. After giving birth, the male will take over caring for the babies while the mother only sticks around to feed them, once the children are able to eat solid foods it is not uncommon for females to leave to live alone or find another male. though, they do occasionally stay with the male.

purpose

As we'd all suspect, hellhounds are meant to guard the ruling Satanic devil, but not every hell hound is born for that purpose. Within the hell hound community, there are so many purposes for the hounds, such as a guardian, which take the role of hells guard dogs. This breed of hellhound is usually imagined when you think of the species, they are brutish monsters with large fangs built to protect, this breed guards not only the ruler of most of hell but the hellhound king as well.

After that, there are the royal hounds, which are usually smaller, less monstrous hounds that resemble big wolves with regal grace. This breed is usually the one that takes control of the hellhound kingdom, acting as something similar to a royal family, though the rulers do not need to be royal hounds.

Then there are the common hounds, the slightly weaker hounds that stand up to five foot tall for the males and four foot tall for the females. These are the ones usually sent to gather souls for satanic devils.

Finally, the less of a breed and more of a title for hellhound, the breeding mothers. This is the title given to a female hell hound who is more fertile than usual, these girls are used as surrogate mothers for infertile breeding partners that want a baby.

Monarchy

The hellhound Monarchy traditionally does not have a royal family, they more or less run on the rule that if you kill the current king, you become king, but due to the power of the recent king, and the difficulty that comes with trying to kill him, they have adopted the tradition of a royal family with born successors. Now, this rule only refers to hellhounds, so kitsune men cannot kill the king and take his place. In the event that the king is killed by someone who is not at least capable of taking hellhound form, the eldest in that king's family line, or the oldest royal hound will take his place, getting the choice to either keep the queen or find his own breeding partner.

It is against the law for a male kitsune to take the throne, but that does not mean a female kitsune cannot become queen. Matter of fact, the current queen is, in fact, the princess of the kitsune kingdom. This is actually not common within royal bloodlines, kitsune are actually descendants of hellhounds and are sometimes kept as concubines in the kingdom, or made the queen if they are lucky.

powers

hellhounds usually retain the ability to turn into shadows, allowing them to hunt with ease at night. Furthermore, this species has the ability to shift between a hound and human form, allowing them to blend into human society on the surface. Along with these powers, hellhounds retain the ability to breathe fire, and of course, have dangerous claws and fangs.

these species are 'guardian' class immortals
