The book never refers to anything as pre-evolutionary, instead, they call things like that a "defective baby" or other names. Though the book does not tell us about anything with the exact words, it does tell scientists that the dragons began experimenting with how their children were born, leaving modern scientists to theorize on how pure-blooded pre-evs were born.

Pre-evolutionary dark dragons may have been more carnivorous than the modern dark dragon and did not need any sort of vegetables to live a healthy life. Along with this, it is thought that these types of dark dragons may have been more likely to eat an animal completely raw than to wait for it to be cooked. 

-breeding-

with the vague information provided scientists are unable to know for sure how exactly a pre-evolutionary dark dragon breeds, but they believe that they may have simply slept around instead of settling for one mate, or maybe they would have killed the king for neglecting them. The world may never know.

-powers-

these dragons have no recorded accounts of the pre-evs powers. They are thought to maybe have the ability to use more destructive powers than the modern dragon, females may have been more deadly when they were pre-evolutionary, maybe males used their tails for strangling people more than the modern equivalent.

-mating-

Modern dark dragons have no recordings of whether they themselves kept permanent or semi-permanent mates, let alone if the pre-evolutionary versions did so.
