Phil woke up at eight the next morning. He opened his eyes slowly, feeling warm and fuzzy on the inside. He was happy and at peace- until he turned his head. When he saw it was Dan pushed up against his side, he launched himself out of bed. He pulled on his jeans at lightning speed and then began to search the room for his belt. Dan sat up when he heard the shuffling.
"Phil, is something wrong?"
"I-i-i-is something wrong!" Phil threw his hands up in the air but continued to search. "I cheated on my boyfriend! And not only that, I cheated on my boyfriend with my best friend!" Phil let out a sigh, and then turned around to Dan. He grabbed Dan roughly by the shoulders, shaking him back and forth. "Dan, we can never ever ever ever do that again." Phil slowly stopped shaking him, until their faces were inches apart.
"I know." Dan whispered. "It's fine though, I'm straight not ga-" Dan's no homo speech was cut short by Phil's lips colliding with his own. Phil threw Dan onto the bed and, well long story short, they did it again.
When they finished Phil gathered his things and left without a word, leaving Dan fully naked in his bed. Around 3 P.M Dan finally got out of bed, throwing on black ripped jeans and a black jumper. Not sure what to do with his day, he got up and went to the kitchen. He froze when he saw Phil sitting on a bar stool, eating cereal. Dan cleared his throat, ran his fingers through his hair, and took a step forward. He pulled down a box of cereal and a bowl, ready to eat.
Phil glanced up from his cereal to take a look at Dan. He cleared his throat to get Dan's attention. When that didn't work, he spoke. "Dan."
Dan turned around and his eyes met Phil's. "Yes?"
"We can't tell Evan. He can't know."
"I know."
"Okay good." And that was it. Phil went back to his cereal. Dan took his box of cereal and retreated to his bedroom, where he proceeded to eat it while he cried for an hour. He had known there was no way Phil could love him back, but he loved him anyway. So instead he finished an entire box of cereal and then fell asleep in a puddle of his own tears.
Meanwhile Phil was in the kitchen, whimpering into his bowl. He didn't really love Evan, but that was who he was dating and he couldn't date Dan. For several reasons, including the fact Dan always claimed to be straight. Plus, Phil knew he couldn't get anyone as amazing as Dan, so instead he had to settle for Evan.
A single tear ran down his cheek, which he wiped away quickly so Dan wouldn't walk in and see.
Phil met Evan at a coffee shop that afternoon, sitting across from each other. Evan was staring at Phil's face, admiring every feature. Phil was staring off into space, thinking about Dan.
"Phil?" Phil's eyes darted back to meet Evan's.
"Yes?" A concerned look was spread across Evan's face.
"You okay? You seem a little... off." Phil nodded, squinting his eyes and looking away.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Just kinda... got in a, uh, ... fight with Dan."
"Over what?" Evan wasn't nosy, he just wanted Phil to get out his frustrations.
"I really shouldn't go into specifics, but he, uh, chooses to live his life as a lie, if that makes sense." Evan nodded, showing he understood. "He knows I won't care if he tells the truth, but he lies anyway. And him not telling the truth really complicated something we did the other day, and um, it also makes me have to hold in something. But that's his secret to let out, so I can't say anything." Evan nodded, taking another sip of his coffee.
"Maybe you could ask him why he's denying it in the first place. What's this over, Phil? Video ideas?" Evan's face was curious, but not nosy.
"Uh, um, ye-yeah. Video ideas." Evan nodded, taking the last sip of coffee.
"Just ask him about it. Confront him." Evan grabbed his keys and wallet as Phil did the same, and they left.
