Always will be Dawn POV from now on.
I wake up to the sound of someone banging there hands. I sit up in bed and look out the window. Something was hanging of the edge of the window, it was impossible to see who they were though. I panic and open the window quickly. I use all my strength to help pull them up onto a ledge on the side of my window. They weren't very tall and was wearing a hat that covered there eyes. They held on tight to the walls of the apartment building and simply nodded at me while blurting out a "thank you." They kept walking along the edge till they reached the corner and disappeared into the night. What a nice thing to do to someone who just saved your life..
After that I laid down on my bed, just staring at the ceiling fan, and pretending to spin it around and around multiple times. I started to wonder if Jack would send me to school or not. If he did...would people recognize me? I don't think anyone my age can go on youtube yet but...I guess nobody knows.
I wonder if school is hard. I've only heard about it in conversation, but never knew exactly what it was like. I've always pondered of those type of things.
your distracted again.
I let my hand fall back down next to me, still staring. It was about 5am, the time I usually wake up. So I got out of my bed and walked into the living room. Jack was still fast asleep on the couch, making little quiet snores. I went into the kitchen and looked for some food. I felt weird eating someone else's food, so I decided to not eat anything. I got bored quickly, so I left the apartment to explore the building a bit. Every now and then I would walk by an apartment and see a funny sign, or a cute decoration on the door. I was assuming most of the people where nice. I also felt kinda bad for Sean's neighbors, considering that they had to here him yell everyday. After seeing most of the building, I knew where mostly everything was. I check a wall clock and it was already 6am. I didn't think He would be awake yet, so I strolled back to his apartment. About half way there, I hear running behind me. I turn around and my muscles tighten as I'm pushed to the carpet floor.
"Where were you!! I got worried when I saw the window open in your room and couldn't find you!" Said a voice I recognized.
My eyes finally focus and I see Jack helping me up from the floor. He had glistening eyes and a salty tear rolling down his cheek. I've never had someone so worried about me before..
"I got bored and walked around the apartment building for a little." I say confused. When we first met he didn't seem like a worrier.
"Im still not used to this yet..." he places his hand on top of his neon green hair. He grabs my hand and starts to walk me back the the apartment. He tries to his his face while he wiped he eyes on the back of his hand.
"Do I have to go to school?" I ask suddenly. That seemed to catch his attention.
"Oh, I never thought of that." He thinks for a moment. "What grade level are you?"
"I'm at a fifth grade level, but I'm only nine, so Im not sure if they will put me there."
"I think you should be in 6th.." He says under his breath.
"Really?"
"Hell yes! Your practically smarter then a 9th grader!" He laughs. I fold my hands together shyly and smile slightly.
"So, does that mean yes?" My shoulders rise up and my arms get tense. I was hoping for a yes, but also wishing for a no. I didn't know what the other kids would be like, but I also wanted an education so when I get older I can get a decent paying job. I guess I could always try not to worry about the others and focus on learning, but then I'll be an outcast. Like the ugly duckling.
"What do you want to do? You should have a say in this, so I want to hear your opinion first." He keeps his hand on mine and keeps walking me back.
"I would be ok with going." I decided.
"Then I guess I'll enroll you!" he nodded. I fleer and gently rest my head on his arm, still holding his hand. He gets a little startled by it, but doesn't do anything. He seemed ok with it.
Once we arrived back at the apartment, he plopped back on the couch and took out his phone from his pocket.
"Whatcha doing?" I ask walking into the kitchen.
"Looking for a good school for you." he says casually. He bends one leg and crosses it over the other. I open a few cabinets, but couldn't find the one that held cups and glasses.
"Second one to the right of the microwave."
"So you can read minds now?" I joke, opening the right cabinet this time.
"You looked thirsty on the way back." he said, still fiddling on his phone. I reach for a small glass and shut the cabinet door. There is a little gadget on the door of the fridge that pours water, so I use that. Once the glass was filled I added an ice cube and sat down next to him, taking a sip of the cool water.
"Ok so I enrolled you in this one called 'Milbury Middle School' and they accepted you, despite your age. They only judged you for you I.Q. I guess. You'll be in sixth grade."
"That sounds nice." I reply and take another sip.
"Im ordering you a book-bag and an iPad. Im getting the iPad because god forbid something happens at school, you can use it contact me."
"I can talk to you through it?" I ask. I've heard of Apple devices before, but I never knew what they could do.
"Yep! Once your older you'll get a phone."
"Oh, ok. When will I start school?"
"Since the school year started already, you'll start after winter break which ends a few days after new year. So you still have a month of freedom." He joked.
"That's not too bad. I don't have to be nervous till after Christmas."
"Yeah!" He laughed. "That reminds me, I never told you about the replies to the video I made with you." My limbs become brittle at his words. My hands started to sweat around the cold glass.
They probably hated you.
I still don't know why you even did that stupid video.
find a way out of it dummy.
"Did they like me?" I squeeze the glass tightly, waiting for a response.
"No. They don't." He sighs. This is great. Well now that I know that the world hates me I should just fall out the window for gods sake.
Told you.
"THEY LOVED YOU!" he yelled. I get startled and the water in my glass almost spills on the carpet.
"You had me for a second there Jack!" I gently hit his shoulder with my palm and he laughs.
"Oh the pain!" he keeps laughing and falls onto the floor. "Blehhhhhh" He closes his eyes and plays dead. I start cracking up for no reason. It seemed so stupid, but so funny at the same time.
I think you'll be ok.
