Elysium was b o r i n g.
Man, I had high hopes for this movie. I'd seen the first 20 minutes but was never able to see the entire film, and now I wish I hadn't. I thought the concept was really cool, albeit common. Haven't we all seen sci-fi movies that emphasize the divide between the elite and the impoverished? (Snowpiercer, The Hunger Games, etc.) We're all familiar with the concept: a dystopian world, characterized by technology that we could only dream of, but tech that is only available for the wealthy; the elite live in comfort while the poor are treated like filth. And obviously the main theme would be social injustice, you know the drill.
Now, if done properly, movies like this could be groundbreaking. But, like in the case of elysium, done poorly, they can slowly fade into irrelevancy and be reduced into poorly-made mediocre attempts at SciFi.
Sorry, I wanted to like it. But I feel as if they focused on the action too much and perhaps left the storyline behind.
You're entitled to disagree with me, of course. But my advice is to not waste your time over elysium, as I have done.
