— losing the game.
look, look. i know you shouldn't let boys or relationships distract you from school. it's kinda like a number one no-no.
well, i can't help it.
everywhere i go, i think of them.
and him. it sucks."alright, class. i'm handing out the last vocab quiz we took on friday. some of you did well. but..."
mrs. dyer glances around the room. her eyes land on a few students...including me.
"we still have a few that need to work a little harder."
great. just what i needed.
she starts at the first row, making her way down to my desk, in the third. she gives me a disapproving look as she hands me my paper.
i look down in embarrassment. i'm supposed to be a good student. now i'm letting finn and angel girl ruin my life, and my grades.
i flip over the paper in my hand.
a 67? jeez, millie. get a hold of yourself, girl.
i sit in silence, glaring at my paper as i could make it go away with my eyes. i listen to my classmates whisper as we all wait for this class to be over.
study hall is next. freedom.
i smile to myself, but it quickly leaves as i remember that study hall means tutoring finn in chemistry.
since last wednesday - when i saw the revolting sight of finn and iris holding hands - it's been a bit..awkward, to say the least. and it's never been awkward between millie and finn.
the bell rings, dismissing us from homeroom and onto our next period.
i walk slowly to the library, taking my time through the halls. every day since wednesday i've gotten there after finn, because i've dreaded tutoring him. i used to always get there before.
but what's the point now?
he was already at a small table near the back, his head down. we always went to this table. just like we always went to our booth. before she interrupted us. hopefully we can still have this to ourselves.
i dropped my bag by my seat, next to finn. his head was still down. this was probably going to be a bad session.
"finn. you here, bud?"
he lifted his head slightly. his hair was flattened onto his face from the way his head was in his arms. he unsuccessfully tried to blow a few strands out of his face, resulting in even more strands floating down before his eyes.
he shook his head violently, his hair finally leaving his face. he yawned.
"i'm here. sadly."
i knew he was talking about tutoring, but my mind couldn't help but think he was sad he was here with me instead of angel girl.
"well," i cleared my throat. "let's get started."
finn grabbed his textbook, opening it to a page with a sticky note on it.
