The ship was unloading. I had finally reached Eura, the last country to visit on my bucket list of adventures before I get sent back to the Concorba militia prison in Amaya. I, Diana Moonrider was not looking forward to going back to Amaya. But if I didn't find a way off this ship without being seen, I would get sent back.
My long black hair stuck to my back as I quietly moved beneath the deck of the Tellun's Pride. Yeah I snuck into a Greencloak ship after stealing a couple pieces of meat from their kitchen. What? They weren't going to use it anytime soon.
My handmade bow from my father was strapped to my back and a couple of arrows rattled around in my pack, next to some of the food I stole —borrowed. I had two daggers: one strapped to my belt and one hidden in my boot. The one in my boots was the one from my step-mother; it was the last thing she gave me before she died. Thank the great beasts, my sister Lila stayed back in Amaya. She wouldn't have lasted two minutes here.
The box in front of me moved and I darted on top of another crate. Those voices I had heard earlier were getting closer to my hiding place. My hand instinctively went to the dagger on my belt. I listened to the voices to hear what they were saying.
"I can't believe Father is making us do servants work Dawson! I am soon to be the Lord of Trunswick not a common servant unloading crates at the Docks!" One voice said. Whoever he was, he sure was a stuck up complaining little jerk.
"Calm down, Devin. Father sent us here so we could communicate with other people besides servants. Thanks Conor, but I can get that. You can take a break." The boy Dawson said, switching between talking to Devin and Conor.
I leaned closer to listen to more of their conversation. That's when my hand slipped off the crate I was on. I tried to regain my balance but I had leaned so far over that I lost my footing on the crate. I fell and tried to land on my feet but landed hard on my ankle and it twisted underneath me. A jolt of pain hit me like a shockwave and I screamed in pain.
"Damn it!" I shouted. I tried standing, only to fall back causing one of the crates behind me to fall. Yep I was definitely going back to Amaya.
The crates in front of me moved and sunlight blinded me. It took a while to adjust to the bright light but there in front of me stood three boys. They must've been the same age as me. The one in front of me had a smug look on his face while the one on the right looked curiously at me.The boy on the left just stayed behind them and looked between me and the boys in front of me.
"Well look at this Dawson! A stowaway! Father will be pleased to send her back to wherever she came from." The boy in front of me said. He must've been Devin, as the smug look that was plastered all over his face screamed Jerk. Which meant the boy on the right must be Dawson and the one on the left was Conor.
Devin walked towards me, his hand outstretched to grab me. Luckily my dad taught me some self defense skills for this kind of situation. With my good leg, I swept Devin's feet out from under him. When he landed on the ground, I crawled on top of him, my knife in hand against his throat. The other two barely had time to react before I made my move.
However, I did not expect Devin to switch sides and end up on top of me. My knife was still against his throat but that smug grin was still on his face.
"Now that's not a way to treat a future Lord of Trunswick is it?" He said. I just narrowed my eyes and smiled.
"And this is obviously not a way to treat a girl who just dislocated her foot is it? Especially not when you're practically about to kiss me." I retorted. Both Dawson and Conor laughed at my retort. Devin just blushed a little and got off of me.
"Well... when you... put it like that yeah... I guess not." Devin sputtered out. I just smirked and sat up. I winced as I put pressure on my dislocated foot.
"Sorry for that my brother can be a little... reckless. I'm Dawson Trunswick, this is my brother Devin Trunswick and our servant Conor. And you are?" Dawson introduced himself and the other two boys.
"Diana. Diana Moonrider." I spoke. I inspected my dislocated foot and put it back into place. I hissed as the pain in my foot faded away.
I finally got a good look at the trio in front of me. The servant, Conor was blond and he had kind green eyes while the other two had brown hair and darker grey eyes. They were brothers I had to guess.
"So where are you off to?" Devin asked, clearing his throat and reapplying that stupid smug grin on his face again. Oh Tellun how much I already hated that grin. He looked so much hotter without it. Wait what!?
"None of your business." I stood up, dusting myself off and scanning any escape routes past these guys.
"Oh really? A stowaway on a Greencloak ship heading nowhere and an Amayan by the looks of it. Totally not suspicious." Devin rolled his eyes. Man I really did want to punch him in the face right now. Though he sure was fine. ARRGGH! WHAT AM I THINKING!!
"Ok. I'm basically exploring all of Erdas. I heard Eura is pretty this time of year so I thought that I would pop in and see it." I said. This immediately caught their attention and they all perked up.
"Have you seen Nilo?" Conor asked, his eyes wide.
"Yeah, great landscape not so great temperature wise." I answered smoothly.
"Amaya?" Dawson asked, his face also intrigued.
"Very pretty during the Day of the Dead festivities but not so great when you're walking down a dark alley in the middle of the night. Thieves everywhere. And the mountains are beautiful but hard on the feet if you don't have shoes." I answered, which was very true. The only lie was that me and my sister Lila were one of the 'thieves'.
"Bet you've never seen Zhong before! I've seen it all!" Devin exclaimed, crossing his arms. I just raised my eyebrow and continued on.
"Zhong is pretty, though you don't want to run into the Rhino Riders or catch Sunset Death when you're in the more remote parts. I refuse to go into the cities. Too much political troubles that I don't want to get involved in." That stunned them all, and Devin just pouted a little bit more. That's when an idea popped up in my brain.
"Oh and it's ok if you want to send me back to Amaya. I mean from the looks of it, Trunswick is probably full of jerks like you Devin. So yeah it's probably not that impressive." That hit a sore spot. Devin looked like I had just killed his favorite dog, even his eye was twitching.
"Ohh no you don't!! Trunswick is the best place in all of Erdas! And I will PERSONALLY show you that it's the best place you've ever been to!" He perked up and I just smiled and took his arm.
"I look forward to the tour, m'lord."
