30 minutes later, Justin and I were situated in a small booth at the back of a Starbucks. Justin had complained greatly when I dragged him into the quaint café.
“Gray! This place is for middle aged women and white teenage girls!” He’d whined, pulling back as I grabbed him hand.
“I am a white teenage girl, you fool.” I’d rolled my eyes and he’d sighed dramatically before allowing me pull him in.
Now he was seated across from me in a booth around the corner so we had some privacy from the rest of the café. Having already polished off his blueberry muffin and drink, he was leaning on his elbows, staring intently at my face as I picked at a brownie.
“What?” I asked, blushing slightly at his intense gaze.
“You really are incredible, you know that?” He murmured. My cheeks flushed furthermore and I rolled my eyes, laughing softly.
“Compliments aren’t gonna stop me from asking what the hell is going on, you know.” I joked lightly, but the implement of my statement was harsh and demanding.
He nodded slightly, his eyes never leaving mine.
“I know that.” He reached out and took one of my hands, stroking his thumb across the back of it gently. “You’ll find out soon, baby, I promise. I just don’t wanna… scare you, not when things aren’t even set in stone, you know?”
I furrowed my eyebrows, slightly taken aback. What could be that bad?
“Is everything okay over here?” A barista appeared next to our small table suddenly, a pad of paper clutched in her manicured hands.
“Everything’s great, thank-you.” I replied politely.
“What about you, sir? Was everything good?” She fluttered her eyelashes at Justin, basically disregarding my comment. Okay, seriously, he’s hot but I exist too, people!
“Was everything up to scratch?” She went on when he didn’t answer, his eye catching mine for a few seconds. The barista leaned forward, her boobs (or lack of) peeking through the top of her uniform.
“Actually,” Justin began, clearing his throat and sitting up straight. “This muffin was gross and the service here is freaking awful.” He smirked as her eyes widened and I spluttered, my hand flying up to my mouth to hide the grin spreading there.
She snatched the empty plate from Justin’s hand indignantly and flounced off, flicking her short hair over her bony shoulder.
“You’re awful.” I giggled, rolling my eyes. He laughed, leaning forward and planting a quick kiss on my forehead.
“I gotta go piss.” He stated and I scoffed at his bluntness, wrinkling my nose in disgust. He winked, grinning at me before sliding out of his seat and disappearing around the corner.
A minute or so passed by and I swung my legs back and forth in boredom, blowing air through my lips as I peered around the small but adorable café. I grabbed my phone from my pocket, pressing the Home button to reveal the time – 13:17PM. Seventeen minutes after Justin was meant to arrive at East 14th street. My stomach flipped slightly at the thought of him not turning up there, but honestly, what was going to happen? The text message was most probably just some empty little threat.
Suddenly, two hands covered my eyes from behind and I grinned.
“Hmm. I wonder who that could be…” I taunted, giggling. “Perhaps… Justin Bieber?”
“Guess again, sweetheart.”
Okay, that voice mostly definitely was not my boyfriend’s.
I flung my head around in an attempt to shake the random guy’s hands off but one of them slipped down to cover my mouth before I could make a sound.
“Don’t bother. Get the fuck up or I will shoot you on the spot. Don’t even think about yelling for help or I’ll kill everyone in the damn building.” Something about the man’s menacing, humourless voice made me believe every word he said as the hard, cold feel of a gun pressed into my lower back. I whimpered as tears sprung to my eyes, blurring my vision.
“Three… Two…” I quickly stood up before he could reach one and his chuckled sickeningly, pushing the weapon further into my spine. I whimpered in pain as he pushed me forward. Goosebumps rose on my arms in disgust and I shuddered at his calloused hands on my skin.
“Good girl.” His hot breath was too close to my ear and it smelled of stale cigarettes and liquor. I swallowed the lump in my throat and stumbled slightly as he pushed me towards the back door fire exit, hidden from view of the bustling café.
“Now, you’re gonna cooperate and get in the car,” He began to explain without extracting his hand from my mouth. “Or I will shoot you in your pretty little head. Got that, Princess?”
I nodded hastily, blinking rapidly as the tears began to spurt down my cheeks in hot bursts. He proceeded to shove me mercilessly into the backseat of a black car, where another man was seated at the wheel. He didn’t acknowledge my entrance, merely inclining his head slightly as the other bastard slipped into the passenger’s seat.
“The dick went to the bathroom and left her alone. Has he learned nothing?” He chuckled spitefully, earning a smirk from the driver.
My hand slipped to the door handle quietly but of course it was locked. There was nothing to smash the window with either and I couldn’t think of anything else to do. I swallowed the bile in my throat and glanced back at the building as the car lurched forward, sending my stomach dropping to the floor.
“P-please don’t do this… please…” I begged, a tear slipping down my cheek.
“Shut the fuck up.” The man spat harshly, glancing at my in the rearview mirror.
“I haven’t done a-anything… please!” My voice broke as I cried out to them, causing the man to spin round suddenly in his chair, glaring at my menacingly.
“Jesus, you should have fucking gagged her, Jasper.” The driver shook his head in annoyance.
“Just hurry up and drive.”
