The next morning, my eyes felt swollen and itchy as I blearily blinked them open to greet the harsh daylight. I took a deep breath as the previous day’s events washed over me, taking comfort in Justin’s large hand steady against my back, resting under my t-shirt so I could feel his warm skin on my own. I buried my head into the side of his neck, breathing in his current scent; the smell of warm sleep and fading cologne.

He grunted sleepily, wiggling around a bit until he was lying on his side, stretching his arm further around my body and pulling me flush against him. His chin rested on my head and he let out a long breath.

“Morning.” He murmured sleepily, his voice deep and scratchy from slumber.

I kissed his jaw in response, allowing my eyes to flutter closed again, desperate to stay in this safe, beautiful moment with him for a little longer before our not-so-normal reality crept back up on us.

A few minutes later, Justin’s phone vibrated harshly on the nightstand, causing me to jump at the sudden noise blaring through the quiet room. Justin cradled me closer in his arms for a few seconds before snaking his arms away, rolling over and grabbing the phone.

I examined his face as he read the message, my heart dropping as his eyebrows furrowed in annoyance and his jaw clenched in anger.

He threw the phone onto my lap, running a hand roughly through his messy hair and pulling himself off the bed. He disappeared into the bathroom and a few seconds later the sound of the shower being turned on echoed through the door.

I glanced down at the screen, frowning.

Come to warehouse at 11:00 sharp. Got some jobs for you. Welcome back, Bieber. Bring that pretty little girlfriend of yours too.

I grimaced in disgust, slamming the phone down onto the bed next to me and burying my face in my hands, groaning in annoyance.

I dragged myself out of bed, trying to annoy the growing, sick feeling in my stomach as I crossed the room to the bathroom, letting myself in. Steam billowed around the room as Justin showered behind the curtain.

“Hurry up, Justin,” I called, squeezing some toothpaste onto my toothbrush and beginning to clean my teeth. I inspected my appearance in the mirror – I looked positively sleep deprived, dark bags adorning my eyes and my pale skin practically glowing under the mirror light.

I finished cleaning my teeth just as Justin turned the shower off, stepping out and wrapping a towel round his waist. I glanced back at him, noting the angry, worried expression on his face. I made my way over, wrapping my arms around his neck despite the glistening moisture, planting a lingering kiss on his lips.
